Howard Dean didn't dissolve ALL of the gay outreach unit at the DNC
He dissolved the unit which dealt with gay issues (and apparently many of the people in that unit will be looking for new jobs soon). However, he kept the separate unit which raises funds from us.

So we're not important enough to actually have any unique issues considered by the party. But we're still important enough to lobby for a check.

How much longer until we're the Log Cabin Democrats?

1. Interesting.
That's the conclusion I have to come to as well. Our money is good, but actually putting forth effort to fight the coming gay holocaust - well . . . not so much.

3. I don't want to be insensitive,
but don't you think you're overstating matters to talk about the coming gay holocaust? Everything I see (and granted I live in VT) leads me to believe that despite the marriage amendments and the rhetoric coming out of the fundies, Americans continue to grow more accepting of gays and lesbians. That said, I'm disappointed in the DNC decision to cut gay outreach. It's wrong and stupid.

4. Gay holocaust not overstated..
Cali, you are lucky to be living in Vermont, but like the rest of us, are somewhat unaware of events going on outside our own areas. I think Donco6 is right to be concerned. On Monday I spoke with one of our Oklahoma House representatives and he told me that "anti-gay legislation being introduced and considered here has reached the point of being psychotic", and this man doesn't get excited by much of anything. He said that he is frightening by what some legislators want to do to us. Not just inhibit or infringe on our rights, but do us outright damage. If he's frightened, and he isn't even gay, I think the rest of us need to be paying very close attention. Of course, this is Oklahoma, the buckle of the Hate Belt, and if they could, it wouldn't surprise me if "they" came for us tomorrow. The only thing standing between us and total annihilation is a few "stand-up" legislators like the one I spoke with. Here in Oklahoma, and in a few other states, that protection is razor thin. Yes, I am working to escape from here in the next couple of years.

Peace and Love.

5. I don't believe so.
I have no confidence in the ability of moderates and liberals to reel in the fundamentalists should something go south. Say - a disease tracked back to gays. That's all it would take, and I truly believe you would see concentration camps springing up. All in the name of "public health and safety".

2. So another sign.....that they want to become
like the Republicans, take our donations, take our tax dollars and disenfranchise us at the the same time.

6. From the buckle of the Bible Belt
Y'all the oppression is building every day ~ and now with the DNC dumping us it has grown darker. We're fighting an anti-gay amendment this Fall and very few GLBT folks are getting involved. They're stepping back into their closet - or - they say "well this amendment really doesn't effect me."
It's hard to be a warrior for equal rights, sometimes there is so little hope. I think I'm going to vote all independent - or Green - any party that's got my back get's my vote.

7. I think...
How much longer until we're the Log Cabin Democrats?

...any queer who still supports the Dem's after this should be calling themselves the Log Cabin Democrats.

8. I have heard he dissolved ALL the individual units
for outreach and combined them into a general outreach program.

So, this was bureaucratic reshuffling, not aimed at gays in particular.
