San Francisco Catholic Diocese Reportedly Seeking Way To Ban Gay Adoptions
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/03/031006sfAdopt.htm

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco is reportedly under pressure from the Vatican to block gays and lesbians from adopting children.

In Massachusetts the Church is seeking an exemption from that state's human rights laws to bar gay adoption and the issue of similar adoptions in San Francisco was raised by the Boston Globe Friday with the former Archbishop of San San Francisco now the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith - the Vatican office leading the attacks on same-sex marriage and gay priests.

Archbishop William Levada told the Globe that he had allowed three children to be placed in gay households during his 10 years as archbishop of San Francisco but told the paper that he believes no bishop should permit children to be placed with gays or lesbians.

Levada said that the three children were ''difficult to place" and that ''prudential judgments" about the needs of the children, church teachings, and the mission of the agency were considered in the adoption process.

1. take away their tax free status
it is long past time.

When I hear language like "seeking an exemption from human rights laws" I think it should be printed on bumper stickers everywhere.

We know what the leadership thinks, I wonder what the parishioners think?

Since when was any exemption from human rights laws ever a good thing.

9. The hilarious thing is that the Church
wants exemptions from human rights laws. I say tax their butts or remove recognition of them as a church. They've committed far too many crimes already to be recognized as anything more than a cult.

2. Well, I don't believe that children should be placed
Anywhere near Catholic priests, bishops and other higher ups. I've never heard of any case of a gay or lesbian abusing their adopted child so who has the better track record?

3. Stop taking tax money for adoptions and you can do it any way you
please.

It's really not hard. 1) Here's the program 2) Here's the rules 3) If you want in on the program, you have to follow the rules 4) If you don't want to follow the rules, you can't be in the program.

Funny, it sounds very similar to the stuff you teach in all your churchs about following the rules (1) so you can get into heaven (2). I really can't understand why it's so difficult for you to understand

5. What? They're re-opening this old wound?
One of the most powerful institutions on the planet has decided to focus its resources on gay adoption?!

I'm sure the war-ravaged and exploited peoples of the world will be so grateful for the spiritual and intellectual diversion. :sarcasm:

If the hearts of the Catholic leadership become any more calloused it will be their own undoing. It may already be too late.

6. so is this the sub part ''a'' to the decision in massachusets?
i will contend that it is NOT the catholic churches intention to get out of the adoption business at all.

here the catholic church's position is in line with other conservative christian churches goal -- to create an America that follows the rules that are palatable to them.

and to get other Americans to go along with it whether they like it or not,

the catholic church is deeply committed to a publicity war on gay folk to help them regain their ''moral superiority'' in the light of the pedophilia scandals.
it is a contrived and cynical campaign.

there's more to say -- especially with states geering up to recind their abortion rights laws and to recapture the war on who owns womens bodies -- but i will leave it here for now.

7. Why not pull out of ALL adoptions?
Too bad LGBT Organizations can't raise enough money to pick up the slack. I'm sure that'd piss 'em off. I'd love to see the Catholic Church be replaced by a Gay Adoption Agency.
