Please DU this poll:
http://www.dailyherald.com/

Should homosexual couples be allowed to adopt children?

1. There's no reason to restrict it.

2. It's not ideal, but better than foster care.

3. This should not be allowed.

3. Done. Wow, the wording of that poll is very revealing.....
They can't have a simple 'yes' as option number one. Option number two might as well say "It's wrong, but it's not the worst thing that could happen to a child!". Why bring up foster care at all? Option three is the only one worded in a straightforward manner.

The poll author appears to have an agenda. :eyes:

6. red area of a blue state
The Daily Herald serves the Chicago Suburbs and things tend to get skewed red around here, particularly where I am in the far Northwest suburbs. The polls in the Herald tend to be heavily freeped. The Illinois Family Institute and the rest of the religious right are very organized.

8. No agenda
I'm guessing the poll was prompted by this story: http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/03/032306adopt.htm A relevant quote:

The report, prepared for the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute - a nonpartisan policy organization that deals in adoption issues - says that "adoption by gays and lesbians holds promise as an avenue for achieving permanency for many of the waiting children in foster care."

It is considered ideal that, if a child in the foster care system is put up for adoption, the child get adopted by the foster parents rather than move to a new home, a new family, and have the stress of readjusting. Several states allow gay people to serve as foster parents, but refuses to let them adopt; there are lawsuits pending to change such discriminatory state laws.

The poll accurately reflects current events in a way that a simple "Yes" or "No" choice could not.

13. bigots got a hold of it
Unfortunately, the poll just got heavy freepage in the last hour. Sanity was prevailing all morning, but now bigotry is on top. The pseudo-Christian right has a powerful network, even in blue Illinois.
