Laura Bush urges GOP to avoid using gay marriage amendment in campaign strategy

(Washington) Some election-year advice to Republicans from a high-ranking source who has the president's ear: Don't use a proposed constitutional amendment against gay marriage as a campaign tool.

Just who is that political strategist? Laura Bush.

*snip*

My 2 cents:

Laura has ZERO policy making power, so it comes off looking like an olive branch. However, notice how it conveniently comes from a relatively ineffectual source (but to Ma and Pa middle America, one that appears to have a little say so). A wolf in sheeps clothing, I say!

SORRY, but I am way too cynical to believe anyone in this administration, including first ladies.

Still, nice mea culpa. "A" for effort.

on edit: typos and 1 more point:

hey and what better way to keep the center RIGHT (you know, the ones who are REALLY responsible for the occupant's low numbers right now) from running away? Just a thing that's makin' me go HMMMM.

2. Yes, we're getting the "good cop" right now.
I suspect the Republicans will be desperate to make sure their base comes out in November. So, you bet the FMA (or whatever it's called this go-around) will be used as a campaign tool.

So, forget Laura and her advice. Because the Republicans won't take it.

Good analysis.

3. And the timing of Mary Cheney's book? Co-incidence? I think not
it's part of a plan to soften up their "we don't hate gays, we're just protecting marriage" bullshit

4. Remember Barbara Bush?
I remember when a similar thing happened with talk of Barbara Bush being pro-choice. She was portrayed as being softer on such issues and more caring, even motherly. In reality, of course, people in the know were well aware of the fact that she was nothing less than a first class bitch.

I personally think no less of Laura Bush. I mean, who wouldn't be a two-faced bitch having to be married to W?

6. News flash, Pickles, the GOP have been doing just that for years!
You didn't seem to have a problem with it when your hubby made that part of his platform in 2004. Hypocritical moran.

Maybe she is trying to win points for the GOP with the center, but this gay liberal sure isn't buying into her transparent act.
