"The Mayor of Castro Street," coming out in 2007.
I'm sure many of you have already heard about this movie, but I hadn't, and it looks promising. It also got me reading about George Moscone and Harvey Milk again, which makes me sad but proud at the same time. Especially this prescient quotation by Milk:

"If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door in the country."

The movie is coming out in 2007. From about.com:

Director Bryan Singer will be taking a break from comic book inspired movies - "X-Men, "X2," and "Superman Returns" - when he steps behind the camera to direct "The Mayor of Castro Street" for Warner Bros Pictures.

Based on the 1982 biography written by Randy Shilts, "The Mayor of Castro Street" is the story of Harvey Milk, a San Francisco supervisor who, along with San Francisco Mayor George Moscone, was gunned down by SF supervisor Daniel White. Milk was the first openly gay supervisor to serve the city of San Francisco and his death helped unite the gay community.

Director Bryan Singer told Variety,, "Harvey created a concept and pride for a disenfranchised group at a point in history when the world was in upheaval, and he paid the highest price for it."

4. I wouldn't count on a 2007 release but I am definately looking
forward to this film. I still remember reading about White getting convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter using that ridiculous twinkie defense. It was an explanation point on just how hated we were. Interestingly enough Muscone's son turned out to have been gay.

5. I wonder who they'll get to play Harvey.
At one point I heard that Robin Williams was being considered for the role ... though that was in one of the earlier versions (maybe Stone or Van Sant's versions).

12. Kevin Spacey looks alot like Milk.
It's about time this movie comes to fruitation. The documentary "The Times of Harvey Milk" was well-made and out on DVD now.

10. "The Times of Harvey Milk", a WONDERFUL documentary by Rob Epstein.
Edited on Sun May-14-06 08:57 PM by Uncle Roy
The opening lines were:

Dianne Feinstein: As president of the board of supervisors, it's my duty to make this announcement. Both Mayor Moscone and supervisor Harvey Milk have been shot and killed.

And the last lines were:

Harvey Milk: I know that you cannot live on hope alone, but without it, life is not worth living. And You... And You... And You... Gotta give em hope. Thank You very much.

In between came the most profoundly moving documentary I've ever seen. I was still crying the next day.

It came out in 1984, and followed Shilts' book "The Mayor of Castro Street" very closely. NetFlix has it.

Check it out!

We can grow big thick mustaches, wear tight bell bottom pants and make out.

Oh yeah and be in a movie.
