Idaho checks out gay book so no one else can
Edited on Tue Jun-27-06 02:03 PM by booley
An Idaho man has checked out the The Joy of Gay Sex from his local library in protest of a recent library board decision to keep the book on the shelf. The book has been at the center of a controversy in Nampa, Idaho, that has library officials pitted against parents who want books which deal with sex removed.....Randy Jackson, who led the parents trying to ban the books, checked The Joy of Gay Sex out of the library and has said that he has no intention of returning it anytime soon.

So my question is, can't people donate books ot libaries? Why not donate some gay books?
Well I called and apparently YOU CAN DONATE.

101 Eleventh Ave South
Nampa, ID 83651
(208) 468-5800

When you send in or drop off books, they will go through and decide which books they want and sell the rest at a book sale.

So anyone got any extra copies of The Joy of Gay Sex ?

Indeed, any reason we shouldn't donate books with gay and progressive themes to Libraries all over the nation?

9. in the future
you could easily obtain a link on a news story just by going to google typing in - news "gay sex" and "idaho" (in this instance) in the same amount of time it takes to make a reply asking for the link. someone advised me, and I do it all the time now.

cheers!

12. I am aware of that, thank you ...
but I am a purist. If a person makes a post here about an online news item, said poster should include a link to the story.

His male neighbors better keep their doors locked.

14. That book will need to be hosed off (if you know what I mean) when he's
eventually "done" with it.

4. Don't libraries restock books that get lost or stolen?
So its pointless, and this has to be illegal in someway, I mean its stealing, taking something that doesn't belong to you without the intent to return it

and why aren't they ordering another, and barring him from checking a second one out, or revoking his card for admitting he's keeping the book out not to read, but to protest, time after time???

fucking retarded...

Conservatives have failed to remove several books they found objectionable from the shelves of Nampa, Idaho’s public library. Since November some parents have voiced concerns over The Joy of Sex, The Joy of Gay Sex, and other books available at the public library. Most of the more than 20 people who showed up to hear the library board’s decision on whether to remove the books or not were in support of pulling them, including Nampa Mayor Tom Dale and a spokesman for the city council. But the board members weren’t having any of it: In a three-to-one vote on Monday, they chose to keep the books on the shelves, offering what they called a compromise by deciding to place the books on the top shelf, out of the reach of children. They also urged continuous re-shelving walks through of the library, making sure the questionable books weren't lying around. Lorrie Bershears, a board member for the National Association of Social Workers, says the issue comes down censorship and parents keeping closer eye on their own children. (Sirius OutQ News)

8. took one for the team, eh?
so to speak.

Why don't we check out all the sex and anatomy and cultural family and home-ec books? All the religious books? They want a war, let's check every single book we disagree with out of the library.

Social judo.

13. The San Francisco Public Library has had to address this problem often.
Not long ago, they sponsored an art project where they took books on LGBTQQ issues that have been vandalized (mostly by a single person) and use them to create art. It was a very successful project, one that a friend participated in. Those who live in San Francisco know that our public library has a special room dedicated to books of this subject and interest, called The James C. Hormel Gay & Lesbian Center.

Obviously, the misguided people who do this think they can stop others from thinking freely for themselves by depriving them of information. It doesn't. What it does do is show more clearly that those who would do this need help.

18. Isn't it?
And the projects were really beautiful. It took an act of hate and turned it around, making something positive out it, while promoting acceptance and understanding.
