Officials Quit Over Gay Marriage
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/01/010505marrCom.htm

Twenty marriage commissioners - the people who perform civil weddings - have quit their jobs in two provinces because they object to same-sex marriage.

In British Columbia 12 commissioners quit rather than perform gay nuptials. In Saskatchewan 8 have resigned.

In all cases they commissioners, who are licensed by the provincial governments, quit saying gay marriage is against their religions.

boo freaking hoo--do your job

1. How many government officials quit when the South was forced
to uphold the civil rights of black people?

what fucking losers....too bad equality isn't in those Canadians dictionary

and on edit:

If they are using religion as an excuse, according to the bible, its illegal to marry people of different races, religions, and ethnicities, so the real question is, how many refused to marry an interracial couple? or a Jew and a Catholic?

3. The upside:
Now the provincial government can replace them with people who will happily perform the wedding ceremonies.

Good that they're out of there!

4. Let them quit
They aren't getting paid to impose their religion on others.

I'm an atheist, but if I worked in a bookstore, I wouldn't refuse to sell bibles.

9. I agree. Their job is not to impose beliefs on others
but to just marry people. If they didn't want to do it, then they shouldn't work there. (and now they don't)

5. Good for them!
If I believed as they did, I would do the same thing in that situation. I completely understand why they resigned.

8. My thoughts exactly.
Even if you disagree with their beliefs, under what grounds do we force them to accept ours. They have taken the honourable course, and far better this way than getting upity.

7. Better than staying and refusing to perform their duties...
...let them go and find a profession in which they wouldn't feel the urge to discriminate against their fellow citizens.
