Statement from Log Cabin Republicans about Foley
(Washington, DC) – Log Cabin Executive Vice President Patrick Sammon issued the following statement regarding Mark Foley:

"Mark Foley's shameful actions were reprehensible. He abused the power of his office, violated the trust of the voters, and exploited young people.

"There should be a thorough criminal investigation by appropriate law enforcement agencies. If Mark Foley broke the law, he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

"Additionally, there should be a full investigation to see if Congressional leaders responded appropriately to Foley's behavior. This unfortunate and inappropriate situation shouldn't be unduly politicized.

"Preying on young people is shameful, immoral, unethical and illegal, regardless of sexual orientation."

http://online.logcabin.org/news_views/reading-room-back-up/statement-from-log-cabin.html

I think it's only slightly less "shameful" and "reprehensible" that there is a single living gay person that associates him/herself with that disgusting Log Cabin organization and the disgusting Republican Party. :puke:

2. log cabin republicans
I told a frined of mine that a gay republican is like a jewish nazi. Actively participating in a group or cause that wants you dead. Sick, stupid bastards - i would feel sorry for them if I did not hate them so much. I wonder if any of them watched Patrick buchanan say that gays are deviants that should not be allowed into positions of power because they all end up as pedophiles - fucking idiots

3. i hate them with every fiber of my being.
i know what they are all about -- racism, sexual repression{because they get boners over traditional images of men}, hate of women, etc...

they are the most regressive, repulsive creature to ever crawl out of a pile of garbage.

4. 24% of gay people voted for Bush in 2000. 16% of Jews are Republican.
Bush's approval rating among African-Americans is 2%.

6. Those are some pretty smart African Americans. Too bad more don't
vote.....they just feel so horribly disenfranchised.

Who can blame them.

On the other hand, the gays who voted for Bush are some of the most foolish, naive people I can think of.

13. Last I heard, it was 2% of Jews vote Republican...
Funny story: I was reading Ann Coulter (so I'm a masochist...), and in the space of a few pages she A) Calls Democrats anti-semites and B) Says 98% of Jews vote for Democrats (who apparently hate Jews).

16. You have the wrong three words
It should be: "self hating homosexual." Log Cabiners hate being gay so much that they don't give a rat's tail about the GOP being dominated by Talibangelicals out to murder them all.

17. Nope, Siyahamba got it right
One of my co-workers was a pro-Bush lesbian, cheerfully out and unashamed. She even sent invitations to her commitment ceremony to several people in the office.

She was a "I got mine" gay Republican: contemptuous of labor unions, pro-business, pro-Iraq war.

It was hard not to like her because on the surface she was such a friendly, outgoing young woman. But I could never quite shake my disgust of her politics, and I gently but consistently rebuffed all attempts to socialize outside of work. I knew that if MY partner ever got within shouting distance of these two BushBots, World War III would have started.

7. Say what????
So the Executive Director of the Woodies says:

"This unfortunate and inappropriate situation shouldn't be unduly politicized."

Unduly? How can that be when the third-man away from the Presidency may have facilitated the commission of a felony, and then tried to cover it up?

I'm sorry buddy, but the

8. What exactly is it about the GOP that the LCRs support?
Their fiscal restraint and responsible spending?
Their support for the separation of Church and State?
Their trustworthiness and honesty?
Their support for consumer protection?
Their concern for the evironment
Their support for our men and women in uniform?
Or is it just the outstanding job the Rethugs have done in promoting gay rights and equality?
:grr:

12. I don't totally buy that
Seems a little too facile. I know guys with bucks and they would no more vote Repug than I would, much less actively support the party by joining the LCRs. No doubt there are rich LCRs who think that they are somehow protecting their wealth, but I can't believe that all LCRs are rich or that keeping theirs is their sole motivation. I think in most cases it goes deeper than that, but I don't claim to understand it

14. You're probably right
I think a lot of self-hate is involved too. From what I can tell (being a queer black gothic Pagan I just don't run into too many LCRs :P) it's the "no, really, we're just like you!" gays that end up LCRs. The kind that always decry the trannies, the polys, the leatherfolk, etc... They are ashamed to be associated with "freaks" because they're afraid that's how the straight white male community sees them (and it's a reminder that they may not have all those privileges they'd otherwise have). If that makes any sense.

They'd be the first ones to take that proverbial straight pill, I think.

15. I think you've explained a lot of it
They're guys who want to be accepted as equals by those in the straight corporate money-driven white-collar world. They are no different from other wannabe WASPS except for the fact that they get off on guys rather than girls, but obviously this is kind of a major stumbling block for them. And yeah, I think the rest of us in the family are a bit of an embarrassment to them. Of course I find THEM embarrassing so I guess it evens out :7

21. okay guys & gals
lets adjust the stereotypes a wee bit

LCR's mostly DON'T have real money - they're just like other forms of republicans; they are "WANNABE'S".

They're reality challenged, self-centered deluded authoritarian personality disordered nutbags, and quite often also not very informed nor very intelligent.

Don't bash "the haves" though - most "haves" are actually on the democratic side and do give bazoodles and fight for our stuff with the rest of us like a mad leather queen with a bee in her assless chaps.

:P

Seriously though, the Dallas community alone raises millions of dollars each year for HRC and for DIFFA from within the community. There is much bigger real money on this side than those piddly little allocated trust fund wannabes and their entourages over there.

22. I agree
I hesitate to bring this up because I don't want to be accused of harboring Freeperist
tendencies, but there seems to be a kind of knee-jerk negative reaction both here and on DU in general to people with money. I don't think that being rich makes you a selfish and uncaring person any more than being poor makes you a virtuous one.

23. Two of my gay friends are republicans
One I would classify as 'very wealthy' and the other as 'extremely wealthy.' I can't say they're bad people - they wouldn't be friends of mine if they were. I just think they're such free-market capitalists that they choose to ignore the gay-hating side of their party.

24. Very few wealthy people really benefit much
If you are simply talking money I'd say that you have to be on the extreme side of extremely wealthy to see much benefit from the Rethug economy. If you are pulling down four or five hundred thousand a year and are maybe worth a four or five million you are getting nothing from the Bushies. You got four or five hundred million socked away and your income is largely or exclusively from dividends and interest then you are probably making out okay.

26. You've got to hand it to them
They've basically shifted the tax burden on to salaried people and wage earners and away from corporations, interest, and dividends. This is not totally bad because a lot of retired people depend on interest/dividends to supplement their Social Security. For them, a good return and low taxes on these things literally mean not having to choose between heat and medicine.
On the other hand, the Trustifarians make out like bandits while the government is funded by you and me.

Sorry, I got a little carried away there. I always do when this comes up.
