Quick question
I was just wondering, of those of you here who do identify as gay, lesbian, bi, trans, queer, etc (you know the list...) how many of you knew you were gay, etc, and/or identified as such before you had any sexual contact whatsoever?

Everyone always defines GLBT relationships in terms of sex, so I was just wondering.

Thanks!

3. I guess I always knew!
During my early years (pre teens) I developed a huge crush on Wonder Woman.

But because of society I was in denial about it for a lot of years. But there comes a point when everyone has to begin living their lives and not lying about them.

7. I knew
I remember realizing when I was about 4 or 5 that other boys were different. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I knew they weren't on the same wavelength I was. As far as I was concerned if there was a problem with that it was theirs not mine.

8. I came out in college
I came out in college, when I was still a virgin. I use to do panels for classes and for some reason everyone that was straight always asked me how I knew I was gay if I had not had sex - Id always ask how do you know your straight? :)

11. I knew way before I had any physical contact with a same sex partner
Edited on Fri Feb-23-07 10:57 AM by LostinVA
Including kissing. Early teens, I guess, although I had major crushes on other girls from about fourth grade on.

I was raised Catholic and in a rural area. You bet I wanted to be "normal" and so dated boys.

I didn't physically come out, as it were, until college.

15. I was 13 when I started to realize....
But because society taught it was wrong to be gay, I never considered it. But looking back little things here and there at about 13 would suggest I started realizing then I was gay, the pieces didn't add together until September of 2005. Basically when I was 13 I had a few girlfriends for a few years, but never had any strong feelings for them. I didn't understand why they felt so strongly for me, and I didn't in return. And kissing girls and getting passionate with them didn't feel right, and I felt no joy or passion out of it.

It was a learning process, and realizing no matter what society's ignorance says I can't change who I am and I finally decided I was going to live the life I was trying to hide!!

I must say, I'm a lot happier. I have my bouts with depression, but it was most severe when I was hiding my sexuality. Thoughts of suicide, attempted suicide, etc.

I'm glad I came out, and am very happy now!!

16. i knew i was different at least before jr. high...
i had equal 'crushes' on female and male tv actors and musicians as long back as i can remember...
equal crushes on male and female acquaintences from about the age of 10...

I'm not as equal in that respect anymore...
i am definitely much more attracted to women

17. I did.
Before someone has sexual contact, the attraction has to be there. Otherwise, why bother? That's what I don't get about those people who say things like "it's a choice" and "it's wrong or immoral." It's not all about sex. And those who think it is and are straight and married must have a pretty shitty marriage. Who'd want to put up with all the sacrifice that marriage requires just for the sex? That seems ridiculous to me.
