Andrew Anthos, Age 72, Victim of Detroit hate beating dies
Andrew Anthos, whose dream was to light up the Michigan State Capitol dome in red, white and blue, died Friday of injuries sustained in a Feb. 13 hate beating.

Though Anthos, 72, was visiting with friends as recently as Wednesday, his condition declined rapidly in the past two days and he was administered the last rites late Thursday in Detroit Receiving Hospital.

The attack, which left Anthos paralyzed from the neck down and virtually without speech, shocked the gay community, which reached out to his family with love and support -- as well as anger and a resolve for justice.

"There's going to be a great deal more attention now that this, unfortunately, has become a homicide," said Jeffrey Montgomery of Michigan's Triangle Foundation.

3. And please, pray tell
have a fine upstanding member of the "conservative" "community" explain how this is not a hate crime. If the assailant did not hate the man because he may have been gay, the man would be alive today. Yes limbaugh, hannity and bush and cheney and the rest of the "conservative" "community" justify your position that there is no such thing as a hate crime. Taking into consideration your audience of ignorant trash flag wavers that will not be a problem for the likes of you.

5. Dear Mssrs. Bush, Cheney, and Dobson et al:
What has the current administration and its fundamentalist Christian supporters done to improve the climate in this nation regarding violence against gay and lesbian Americans?

What has the current administration and its fundamentalist Christian supporters done to ensure that the climate in this nation regarding violence against gay and lesbian Americans is as bad as ever, if not worse, and indeed regressive?

Specifically to Mr. Cheney: had this not been a regional gay leader in Michigan and instead your own daughter who was cut down by violent bigotry, how would it feel to be the beneficiary of the electoral support of people who helped create the climate in which she died?

7. Let me give you what the Mike Savage take on this might be...
Mr Anthos made the choice to be gay and he was probably acting femmy or something and the guy who attacked him might have felt threatened. Anthos has gotta take some responsibility for the consequences of his own behavior. Or he would have had to if he hadn't gotten himself beaten to death.

Oh, and by the way. Even though he was beaten to death because he was gay there is no such thing as a hate crime. The hate crime thing is a big Liberal lie. Don't buy into it.

(The above is sarcasm. Just want to make that clear to everyone)

There are no words, are there? A 72 year-old man killed because he was gay. Jesus.

9. I was just talking with a friend today about why I'm politically active, an
this type of thing is exactly why. I'm getting too old not to speak out, and younger gays should not have to be subjected to this shit.
