Popular Christian TV host comes out
http://outandaboutnewspaper.com/article.php?id=2550

Local Nashvillian and host of The Remix, a popular Christian youth show, Azariah Southworth, announced today that he has come out.

“This has been a long time coming. I’m in a place where I’m at peace with my faith, friends, family and more importantly myself. I know this will end my career in Christian television, but I must now live my life openly and honestly with everyone. This is my reason for doing this,” Southworth says.

...

“I know I will be cut off from many within the Christian community, and if so, then they didn’t get the point of the life of Christ. I believe by me living my life honestly and authentically now, I am able to be a better person and a better Christian. We all know there are so many other gay people in the Christian industry; they’re just all scared. I was scared, but now I’m no longer afraid,” notes Southworth.

1. I feel so sad that he would have to give up his job over this. What an
admirable, true christian he really is. He'll have good luck though, I'm sure. God bless him...

4. "[...]they didn’t get the point of the life of Christ." Amen!
Even as the morality play was invented/edited/adapted/whatever by Paul and countless others, the lesson is lost if you proclaim yourself a christian and hold the commandments more dear than the beatitudes.

8. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out..
because unlike others in the "christian community" who've come out, there is no scandal here. If he is fired, this will make international news and will shine the light on bigotry and discrimination against gay people here.

9. Which, in turn
Will be held up by the religious fanatics as proof that Christians are persecuted in this country. How can there be freedom of religion when Christians are not allowed to fire those whom God finds hateful? :eyes:

10. Kudos to him "...I'm no longer afraid."
No one should be afraid of who they are. I hope he becomes an inspiration for others who are in similar situations. It's amazing how much life gets better when you let others know who you really are.

12. Good on him
I wish him the best. I left the church when I came out after years of struggle that included counseling and exorcisms that obviously did not work. My hope is that he will be surrounded by people who will open wide their arms and hearts to him as he continues his journey.

13. That took courage.
Kudos to him. If his Christian "friends" betray his friendship and abandon him (I sure wouldn't be surprised), I'm sure he won't have any problem finding a bunch of true friends in the GLBT community. I mean, how many of us have been there - I know I have.

15. Kudos to him.
He will be "shunned" by fundie pigs that control Nashville - I know others that this has happened to.

If every gay man in the Christian recording industry came out at once, they'd have to shut the place down.
