This is a great GLBT poem
You will not read it on my skin,
My tragic, grievous unseen sin.
You will not find it on my face,
My ominous threat to the human race.
If only I could take this invisible trait
And make it a shade for you to hate.
Then you could white-out the world just as you please
Erase my legs’ color until I’m left on my knees.
Oh what ease it would be, to hate at first sight,
How instant and sudden your fears would ignite.
Then you’d turn to your child with righteous breath,
And pointing, say, “Now you know the dye of death.”
And then I could wander nude in plain sight,
A grave neon orange or pale hazmat white.
But still, I would not gleam a hue so severe
As the crowd’s hushed blush of “Always Steer CLEAR.”
Alas, I do not bear this telling tint,
Nor under lights give you thus a glowing hint.
How can you then, know it’s me that you shun?
What sets me apart from priest, friend or son?
I wish I could give you something to see;
I’d make of myself a brightly blazing marquee.
Tell me which then, quickly, from pink to gray,
And I’ll paint myself your favorite shade of “gay.”
