Lesbian star may be new face of Cover Girl
Lesbian star may be new face of Cover Girl

Ellen DeGeneres is reported to be shooting an advertising campaign for one of America's top cosmetics companies this week.

It is another coup for the 50-year-old, who is one of the most prominent lesbians in the US. She got married to her partner Portia De Rossi in California last month.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show is one of America's best-loved talk shows. Presidential hopefuls John McCain and Hillary Clinton have appeared.

The reported $1m Cover Girl deal was revealed in the New York Post.

Former models for the brand include Drew Barrymore and Rihanna.

When Ellen DeGeneres came out ten years ago in an episode of her self-titled sitcom, she made history, scored a ratings landslide and almost instantly became a target of the Christian Right.

Her series was canceled a year later due to sagging ratings.

DeGeneres appeared on the April 14, 1997, cover of Time magazine with the headline, "Yep, I'm Gay."

Her onscreen character, Ellen Morgan came out during the April 30th 1997, episode of the ABC sitcom Ellen.

The episode went on to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing.

2. I agree, she really is
I also think Rachel Maddow is a very attractive gay personality as well.

10. I wasn't aware that Rachel was Jewish
see that, you learn something new every day.

I actually think that Rachel and Buchanan play off one another pretty well, and she has no problem besting him in every go-around. I actually think Buchanan holds some measure of respect for her although he'd never admit it. It's not surprising though that she invited him to be on her inaugural show last Monday.

11. I wonder if Cover Girl makeup
is currently popular with the fundies. If so, they can probably kiss that segment of the market goodbye.

12. If fundies are like me, they buy any brand. But this might be one they
won't be purchasing in the future -- you're right.

18. Good for Ellen!
I also get a kick out of the thought of a bunch of fundie women getting their panties in a wad over Ellen working with Cover Girl. LOL I can see it now - they have to choose between their anti-gay views or their favorite shade of lipstick. What's a girl to do?? LMAO.

7. side note a 50 year old gay woman.
what i love is not only is she gay -- but more important for me is her age.

covergirl is recognizing someone else besides 18 year olds here -- and in an age of constant youth drum beats -- it really nice
to see someone reach out to those who aren't.

8. Ellen was a great show
Something about her delivery made the simplest things funny. I remember one episode that showed different takes of her trying on a pair of skis in her living room talking about what a great deal they were, and the audience busted a gut each time, and the only difference was she would say a different price each time.

Plus her response to Falwell calling her Ellen DeGenerate was classic. Something along the lines of, "Is that the best he can do? I've been called that since I was in 4th grade."

13. Step by step
inch by inch we are moving to equality. It takes people like Ellen to put themselves out there like she has been doing. She is beautiful and hooray for 50! 50 was the best year of my life, it seems women really become themselves at that age. At least most of my friends have agreed with me about that age. WTG Ellen.
