Mark Foley is a gay homophobe.
I couldn't believe that a gay man would vote to allow discrimination. I've got the basic post up and am writing more on it over the weekend...These gay republicans are really the most self-hating group of people I've ever seen.

1. interesting blog.
I wasn't aware Tim and Beverly La Haye of CWFA had a gay son, Lee. All these notorious rightwingers with gay children. Allen Keyes, Phyllis Schafley, and know the LaHayes. interesting.

Mark Foley is a piece of work. :puke:

4. we come in all the variations that are available.
and it is sad for for a gay person to publicly display self loathing.

consider the source -- his parents.

5. Truly sad
I can't think of much more that's as insulting or as self-hating as a gay man describing himself as "straight-acting."

6. Amen
"Straight-acting, straight-appearing" - I mean, WTF is that supposed to mean? I never DID get that.

7. I always thought...
Does "straight acting" mean...

...they disrepect women while watching the superbowl?
...they can't cook a decent home made dinner?
...they can't decorate a room for their life?

No thanks!!!

8. Well, in fairness I s'pose you could call me "straight-acting"
In that I've spent a good deal of my life working in industrial jobs (those hotbeds of tolerance and acceptance) with none of my Joe Sixpack blue-collar ex-army compatriots having the slightest clue. In a situation like that though it's probably less "straight-acting" and more "having a long fuse". :)

9. supposed to mean
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 07:47 AM by FuzzyDicePHL
I think it's supposed to mean that they believe they "pass" for straight.

Sadly, I think all it usually means in practice is that they're closeted.

That said, I do believe it's an individual's choice to come our or not, but to self-identify as "straight-acting" is, IMO, as self-hating as an African-American selling himself as "white-acting."

I've always tried to undo some of the damage of the "straight-acting" label by identifying myself as "me-acting." One of my favorite quotes from "Unnatural Quotations" by Leigh Rutledge is this:

"Anyone can be gay -- it's no accomplishment -- but only I can be me." --Ned Rorem (Composer)

EDIT: Welcome to DU, blogactive and ladeuxiemevoiture!! :)
