I'm just trying to understand. Nice way to get allies, a-hole. A lot of people think Olive Garden food is shitty. Deal. Plus, you can't deny that many Italian people are all in the mafia. Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger. Enjoy your "pizza con horsehead-in-the-bed" by yourself, hater.

and I have to say I've never once been afraid for my life because of my atheism.
Atheists aren't made to feel welcome especially if they insist on being outspoken about it. Gay people are still hunted for sport.

I have found that many i have talked to are more shocked over my atheism than my gayness, many GAYS are shocked over my atheism even, but i never felt my life in danger over it tho I have had close calls because of my percieved gayness. i say "perceived" because they just assumed I was gay based on where i was. strange.

34. And don't forget -- Mormons -- which I think explains their
hatred for gays. They are trying to make the gays the scapegoats to deal with their own lack of equal treatment in our society. I'm not saying I feel sorry for them. I just see through them. They are bullies because they feel bullied. They are trying to isolate gays because they are isolated.

that is said in the name of these rw political attacks people would be silenced in the public square.

Instead, gays have to hear the same bigoted sh*t each time some campaign, law, initiative, or any other blathering idiot get's a mic and starts in on us. Year after year after year.

17. I WILL NEVER SHUT UP!
As my children, now adults, often complained about me to stop talking, as I ranted about this injustice or that, my response was and still is, that I will never shut up until I am dead. This cause has only motivated me to get my voice out there so much more in the public domain. I have always joined in the fights for civil rights in the '60 and opposition to the War in Vietnam, against Nixon, against nuclear power, for the United Farm Workers, for the Public Service Employees where I was a young activist and elected rank and file leader, for womens' liberation, for gay rights as I explored my sexuality as a young man, for the rights of children as I became a parent, anf professionally for affordable housing for working class people, poor seniors and people with physical and mental disabilities, and now for environmental issues. This Morman and Catholic lead attempt to deny existing rights for gay and lesbian people to legally marry in California, and elsewhere, gets me even more re-invigorated and motivated to speak-up more than I ever have on any issue. In short - I absolutely hate all bigotry and always have from my earliest memories. As a child I even hated abuse of helpless animals and got into fights with the thugs in my blue-color working class neighborhoods who attempted to cruely hurt cats and dogs. Mistreatment of human beings gets me madder than hell and I will physically stop it where I have any opportunity or power to do so. Where I can use my voice to stop it I will do that. And this recent current bigorty aimed at the minority of gay and lesbian people to retain a basic right under state law afforded to others must be fought on all fronts.

in the last four days and all of the other stuff that went with it, that maybe a few people realized that year after year of oppression gets really old, and taking away a right once granted was below the belt even for bigots.

36. The answer: Why concern about the union of fundy religions is valid.
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 11:55 AM by bluedawg12
I wrote about this in another thread here on the GLBT fourm.

The concern that white rw, fundy and mainstream churches have learned to cross political lines and reach across progressive agenda's to form an anti-gay union is not trivial, it's not racist and it is happening. That's why we ask questions about the union of fundy churches of all races.

It's taken a couple of days to forumulate these words, and this notion, but it is valid.

Also, the rw is smart enough to know that in this time of transition to power, Pres. E Obama will have his hands full governing this nation and gay issues will be low on the list after the economy, war, climate change, health care, poverty..etc etc.

Here is what I wrote earlier:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=221&topic_id=89426&mesg_id=89455

People ask, "Why do I care if black churches heterosexist?"

The reason I care is because:

Assuming it is true to any extent.
Assuming it is true that the rw will continue it's out reach to the black churches in the so called"cultural wars".
Assuming it is true, it just negated the implications of all of the work we have done for our candidate of choice, Obama, as it just reinforced the idea that racial civil rights has made a giant step forward while GLBT civil rights has been shoved back into the closet and is now the subject of a multidenominational witch hunt.

1.) There is evidence the white churches actively seek to coalition with black churches on these wedge issues under the banner of "Cultural Wars."

2.) If that happens, they, the religious right, has just managed to create an over arching political movement that spans and supercedes party loyalty.

3.) I expect, historically and subjectively, a narrow mindedness from the cultural white right, after all they opposed civil rights, women's rigths and gay rights. That's why there was hope that those who fought for racial civil rights would see the connection to further GLBT civil rights struggles and if not actively campainging and working towards it, then, at the very least not actively working against it.

4.) I had hoped that social conservatives would not manage to form a coalition against GLBT folk with the African American community in a way that allows them to see a greater commonality to the bigotry of the right because of the mis-use of theological views.

The same mis-use that justified slavery.

The same mis-use that justified pogroms.

The same mis-use that justifed an social oppression of the "other" in thename of "faith."

I say write to the National Black Justice Coalition, a pro gay entity and ask for their action, advice and insights.

www.nbjc.org

Also, we need figures like Prof. Michael Eric Dysin to weigh in on these aggressive rw actions to start gay witch hunts with the blessing of all churhes.

..........

Check this out about the rw religious coalition:
