Two gay Obama supporters assaulted near White House
Two gay men said an unidentified man assaulted them on election night as they carried a rainbow flag to an outdoor gathering near the White House to celebrate Barack Obama’s presidential victory.

Channel 7 News, which captured part of the assault on videotape, reported that police arrested the assailant on a charge of assault. A broadcast report of the incident noted that the two victims believed the attacker approached them on the street after he left a Republican Party gathering at the Capital Hilton Hotel.

Acting Lt. Brett Parson, who oversees the D.C. police Gay & Lesbian Liaison Unit, could not confirm whether an arrest had been made, but said detectives were following up on the case after police took a report from the victims.

Parson said officers taking the report did not initially classify the incident as a hate crime, but he expected a follow-up report to list the assault as a bias-related crime based on the victims’ sexual orientation and political affiliation.

The two victims — Zack Pesavento and Steve Kensinger — told Channel 7 that the assailant rushed toward them as they walked past the Capital Hilton Hotel, located at 16th and K streets. They said they were heading to a park near the White House to join an impromptu celebration of Obama’s victory.

According to the Channel 7 report, the men believed the attacker was leaving a Republican National Committee sponsored party at the Capital Hilton, where a crowd of Republicans rooted for GOP presidential candidate John McCain.

1. Repugs gone wild.
Of course it's not a hate crime - the rainbow flag was no clue to the cops? :sarcasm:

2. Is "sexual orientation" expressly written into hate crimes laws in DC?

5. Are they sure it wasn't someone who walked out from a Democratic Party gathering instead?
Getting kinda hard to tell the difference between the two parties nowadays in regards to gay rights. :eyes:

8. They were Dems if they were shouting:
" PE Obama, do not allow your agenda for consensus building to be hijacked by any small, yet vocal minority group." As I just read over on GDP. :eyes:

10. Gays are " viewing life through a very narrow lens these days."
We should practice more outreach.

13. I talk to my friends about the posts, and they keep saying,
"What board is this?"

That's kind of a sign to me that something's gone horribly wrong.

15. It has to be an inside job.
It is a methodical takeover of the party by the right wingers. It's not even the centrists any more. They are using out and out right wing talking points now. They have been since at least the primaries. Yet, we are somehow dubbed the loudmouth bad guys. It's like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Footloose and Grease all collided in a menage a trois head on and turned into A Nightmare on K Street with a twist of The Blob...and it's taking over.

I don't recognize this place any more. It's like a hodge podge of regurgitated right wing bullshit any more. I'm thoroughly confused. I'm not sure whether to make a garlic necklace, buy a silver bullet, whittle a stake, or procure nukes.

16. The most prudent action under these perplexing and trying circumtances would be to
make a garlic necklace, buy a silver bullet, whittle a stake, and procure :nuke:.

19. Maybe we just need to start our own board
Like the DUPanicRoom at yahoo. We may need a Panic Room, we aren't even to the inauguration yet and I would say we are already about halfway there.
