Mormans resigning from church, citing "hate" and "discrimination
http://signingforsomething.org/blog/?p=2015

Mormons continued to register their resignations with, and post resignation letters to Signing for Something this week, citing "hatred" and "discrimination" among their chief reasons for quitting the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These resignations come among the continuing backlash against the Mormon Church's involvement in passing California's Proposition 8 last week to take away the right of civil marriage for gays and lesbians.

6. Catholics should do this too
You live in the city, organize it. Big Catholic marches all over the country. CatholicsResign.com MormonsResign.com. Whatever other denominations. I know there are a lot of us Catholics who will stand up and say we quit going to church because of the hate and ignorance.

8. Catholics don't have secret panties
Mormons have panties for both men and women, they are allegedly sacred and of a very specific design.

These designs are older, but hey, it gives one the idea!

12. They are manufactured by an authorized Mormon company.
A woman can sew their own but it has to be authorized and supervised early on before female is allowed to sew on her own without supervision.

priest started in on birth control, blah, blah, and I got up right in the middle of it and strode proudly down the aisle and out the door. Neither priest nor Rome nor Pope will dictate what goes on my bedroom (that was my mantra at the time). Got a lot of high fives later for that one. Priest was pi$$ed, I was smug...LOL. My point is, do not be afraid to make your voice heard, the catholic church is fraudulent in so many ways. If there is an LGBT group here (I'll find out) I shall try and do what I can.

Perhaps then they will realize that you can't claim to broadcast a message of love when you advocate discrimination and hate.

5. Wow. Just wow.
I've known quite a few disaffected Mormons and I know how difficult it is to break from that particular church.

Most of the people I've known remained deeply religious, but all cited the clannishness and discrimination against outsiders as reasons they left. All described serious struggles with family who remained, some losing those families.

I'm glad some Mormons are taking that drastic step. I know how difficult a step it is.

They sent around a person to tell him that because of his lifestyle he was being excommunicated and would therefore go to Hell for his trouble.

The visitor was an FBI agent and very handsome and personable.

My friend continued in his ways and in the Unitarian Church.

They have really stood up for their principles despite the sacrifice; and, it will be a huge sacrifice. Go to www.exmormon.org to get an idea of how much of one it will be.

19. That's what I want to see
People have been attacking those on here that have been attacking the Mormon church, saying that not all Mormons are like that. To which I've wondered, why are they still there then? I'm glad to see that some of them are doing the right thing and choosing not to be a part of hate cult.

22. These are very brave people
I detest the Mormon Church, and, like most cults, it is very hard to leave -- you have to leave behind most of your family and everything you've been taught since childhood -- at least if you were born into the Church. It's probably not so hard for converts to leave. But for birthright Mormons, this is a huge and terrifying step.

They will no longer be able to attend weddings in the Temple, participate in other family events, and could be shunned by their family members.

I admire those who leave.

I left the Catholic church -- not so hard.

23. This is very personal to me.
I grew up in Utah and was raised in a (albeit non-practicing) Mormon family. I was never really religious and the church never had any power over me or my life but I never took any action to remove myself from the membership roles...until now.

This time it is personal, very personal. I am gay and have been with my husband for over 17 years and married for 5 months. We are raising his 15 year old cousin. Apparently, my family doesn't count for them.

The Mormon Church has disgusted me so much with their bigotry and hatred that I finally started the process to resign from the church. And it feels good!

25. I need to do this!
I just quit and when I moved they lost track of me I figured. I had no clue you had to resign! I will get to that as soon as I can get on my computer. Easier for me, I was caught up in it when I was in the hospital and half way delerious. After I got out I thought I should do it just because it felt good with them and I was lacking direction. There were multiple reasons that I quit and I quit fairly early on. This will make me feel really good!

to get together with my SIL. This has all been within the last year or two. It was hard for him, I think, and many of his family will no longer talk to him.

He's an alright guy tho, a computer scientist, and coming into his own-he mixes the meanest cosmopolitan this side of the rockies and he's only been drinking for 6 months. :)

These religions think they have the trumps, but their members will call them sooner or later.

edit to add: SIL's a pagan! HAHAHAHAAHA!

35. Starting the process today.
Thanks to BeeBee for the link. I always thought that it was just like another church, you stop going and they just eventually drop your name. I had no idea that I was still on their list. I never even got far enough along to go to the Temple. Really, they hated me. I asked the most obnoxious questions. I was surprised on occasion they did not just escort me out. :) It was fun in an obnoxious kind of a way.

It is evident by the website that many people do this for one reason or another but I would imagine there are many right now dropping over the hate of this proposition. It is obvious to me that these people do not believe in the teachings of Jesus, only in the religions about Jesus.
