Alabama May Ban Gay Adoption

Legislation has been filed in the Alabama legislature that would bar gays and lesbians from adopting children.

The bill sponsored by Sen. Hank Erwin Jr. (R-Montevallo) would make it illegal for a person who is gay to adopt a minor.

The state already bars same-sex couples from adopting under its Marriage Protection Act.

1. This is just hurting children

If abortion is going to be outlawed shouldn't we have some loving homes for the kids put up for adoption? Studies show that kids adopted by gay couples are no more likely to be gay than the national average and I'm sure 'normal' in all other ways as well. It might be a bit unconventional to some people but on the whole much better for the kids than being in and out of foster homes or with parents that don't want them. This is unfortunate policy. If they truely care about children, they would not be pushing this. But they don't care about kids, just their own wacko fundie beliefs.

I had straight parents--I'm gay

I know straight people who had gay parents

it has nothing to do with the sexual orientation of the parents--this is the beginning of the slippery slope of denying gays basic civil rights until we're branded criminals for being who we are

So surely those who wish to adopt could simply choose for a little while to be normal.

Not that I really believe that of course. But who is going to check, will they rifle through rubbish bins to look for old copies of The Advocate; check the sitting room of any batchelors to see whether the carpets and curtains match; perhaps they could hire a couple of lap-dancers one male one female see which the prospective parent prefers.

Sweet home Alabama indeed, thank goodness for living in England.
