What Are You Doing For Thanksgiving?

So how are you spending your GLBTQ Thanksgiving?

Anyone making “The Bird?”

Going out of town? Family or friends over?

Working?

Spending it by yourself? (Not with the GLBTQ forum!)

I’ll go first. We have already cooked the bird and side dishes. Had the butterball for dinner, only 12 more pounds of turkey left. Gaah!

We are off to see my mother and have lunch with her at her assisted living residence.:7

The dogs already chowed down on some left overs and drippings over their kibbles.

The outside possum ate the outside stray cat’s left overs, we will feed said pussy cat in AM.

Our inside cats are nibbling on strips of turkey and pretending they are doing us a favor. *sigh*

I bought Gears of War2 and look forward to happily immersing self in post-apocalyptic virtual world riddled with alien creatures, which beats the crap out of real world politics.

All things considered, it’s just another gay holiday in bluedawg-land.

How about you guys? What is everyone doing?

1. My partner and I co-parent with two women, so it's all 6 of us, plus associated
neighbors and friends for the big turkey thing.

But I'm not on the hook for the turkey this year, so more time during the day for napping, dog walking, etc.

2. My partner and I are staying home and we have no guests this
year.

We will walk around in pajamas all day.

Put our Ham in the oven.
Cook our Turkey legs (We would never make it through a full Turkey)
Sweet Potatoes with marshmellows
Pumpkin Pie

Watch football..

Hang out with our two dogs..

Take a nap.......

Bliss!!:toast:

16. well i've started --
the pheasant will be a part of a salad starter -- roasted and shredded, mixed greens with cranberries.

the boar makes me nervous -- it's a low and slow affair -- i've covered it with a rub -- and it's waiting to go in the oven.

i can't wait for the juices -- wild mushrooms with a port wine reduction.

this is where i got the boar from http://www.brokenarrowranch.com/

they were very nice to me -- and the boar looks gorgeous.

i think you and lost might like it very much if you are looking for alternatives ever.

6. Thanx
I'm gay/lesbian - my mom got to be ok with it
My neice is "lesbeen" too - grandma was ok about it
She has her partner living with her at the house.
Her mom, thought is pro prop 8 - but the girl is a genius and they've had some great debates. She said - MY mom isn't stupid but she lets religion get in the way of logic.
Any way we are a strong opinionated rowdey bunch and fun will be had - or else

21. I am sorry for your loss. I can see it coming
with my mom, she is losing ground quickly and today she was in pain and seemed worse than ever.

People forget that the gay family also means elder care, often by single gay adults caring for an elderly parent, which is very difficult.

7. We are going out to eat.
My closest relative is 1400 miles away and my partners father and brother who live here are both drunks. So instead of dealing with drama from her family we decided to spend the day without them.

8. Be sure to call first- we found out a few years ago that many places close
for T-giving, they must figure everyone is eating at home.

Still- no dishes and no cooking has it's up side. Enjoy the day!

12. Right now, HillbillyBob is prepping a nice chicken
with brussel sprouts, green beans, and greens from our last garden. He's making some yummy latkes from the leftover taters we had night before last to go with. I'll be going out in a few minutes with the chainsaw to butch it up (or try to look like it!) now that it's warmed up a bit to clean up a couple of trees that were downed in a storm late last summer. It's been too schnakey and chigger-y to get down there in the holler to do that until now. Mother Nature has provided us plenty of firewood for next year. I just have to go bring it back. (I abhor serpents!! Brushpiles are an invitation for them to move in. Ain't havin' that!!)

No parades or more DU-ing after this for me. No rest for the weak, the weary, the wicked, or the Rev.

I'll have a good appetite when I get back for a big th'owdown meal, though. Yum!!

When we lived in the city, we used to host the "orphan dinner" for our LGBT and str8 friends who were far away from their families. It was a nice time to get together. We both love to cook and shower love on folks who don't usually get enough of it. Now we're the ones who are far away, but it's nice to have some peace-time to ourselves, too. Zero drama has its benefits! Like later on, well, we still look good to each other

13. I just moved up here to help take care of my grandpa, and he can't really travel
so a good portion of my extended family is coming here to celebrate. But we can't really fit all the people and preparations in this house, so for the first time ever in my life we'll be having thanksgiving at a restaurant.

Last Thanksgiving when my grandpa was really not doing well EVERYONE tried to make it up for Thanksgiving because they were afraid it might be his last, and we ended up doing it at my grandma's church. They have a big kitchen and dining room downstairs, so that was handy. And I got to see some relatives that I hadn't seen in a few years, because I've been too busy and broke since I turned 18 to make it to many family gatherings in the last few years.

It's hard for me to believe that I've been here more than a year now. Time's flown by so quickly.

14. Partner Dwaine and I are going to the cabin in the mountains.
Turkey in tow.

2 dogs, more food than we can possibly eat, Christmas music, pizzelle iron baking away, movies on DVD . . . keeping warm on frosty nights and enjoying the clear air and quiet.

Happy Thanksgiving from Dwaine and Don!

18. Hope everyone has made it through the day
with smiles and love around you.

I came up with a truckbed full of wood before the chainsaw got dull. It was one of the warmest days we've had in a while (almost 60) and the sky was beautiful. Worked on the fence that's supposed to keep the dogs put, but generally doesn't. (Back to Tractor Supply tomorrow. At least the woof-factor there is as good as Lowe's or Gander Mountain, so it's never a totally wasted trip!) Saw my neighbors from across the way and their chickens have been well-productive. We got a dozen and a half fresh eggs. Nothing better than eggs from chickens that scratch the earth. I got a nap later in a cuddle-puddle with my furkids -- in the middle of the week, what's not to like :) HillbillyBob is about to call dinner at any moment. Wildly wonderful smells have been emanating from the Forbidden Kitchen all day. Oo, can't wait! After supper, I've been commanded (as if!) to make some of my secret recipe chocolate chip cookies. We'll end the day, glad to be who and where we are, wishing that all of you are equally blessed.

19. Sounds like a really nice day!
It was pretty quiet and restful here - which is good.

My mom's not doing well today - it's hard watching a parent grow old and lose capacity.

Turkey for lunch and turkey for dinner - it still tastes good, though.

Took a long walk together and fed some birds - very cool those birds, little flying dinosaurs.

Then, somehow ended up watching Bye- Bye- Birdie ( 1964) with Ann Margaret and later, the last half hour of Hair Spray with John Travolta. I couldn't get him out of my mind from Saturday Night Fever to reconcile his "look" in Hair Spray. LOL. It was either that or an old Hitchcock episode from his series, the one with Bruce Dern, a squirrel (that gets it) and a really dreary set. Hair Spray looked more upbeat! LOL.

The little things life is made of, everything and really nothing at all, just a quiet day.

22. Spent the day with Oktoberain's extended family
Edited on Sat Nov-29-08 03:36 AM by ThinkBlue1966
Usually, Oktoberain and i have everyone over here for Thanksgiving dinner, but this year, her mom asked us to come out there, because she wanted to cook.

Works for me!

So Oktoberain, OktoberKid, and i shuffled off to "Grandma's" house for turkey, ham, and all the trimmings!

OktoberKid is still there... he begged to stay and spend a couple of days out in the country, so he could play with his cousins. The house is too quiet, but Oktoberain and i had a lot of homework to do this week anyway (we're both non-trad college students, and we're coming up on finals).
