NY Democrats: The deal: no gay marriage and they stay Democrats.
From a close friend of mine from New York City:

Selling out as fast as they can

The Democrats at the state level here in NY are making deals right and left to drop progressive demands. As the radio people in New York are saying, the Democrats here are "instantly dysfunctional".

Today the right-wing Democrats in NY blocked gay marriage, or what I think of as marriage rights for all, by threatening to leave the Democratic Party and become Republicans. The deal: no gay marriage and they stay Democrats.

The Democrats are so predictable. The question I have is whether they can actually maintain their majorities past the 2010 elections they are generating such wide spread disgust and they haven't even made it to 1/20 yet. The State Democrats here have become the butt of jokes as sell outs and spineless invertebrate of various types.

2. Every single Democratic State Senator has the power to flip the Senate back to the
Republicans and a lot of these guys are playing all sorts of games. It's disgusting.

But yes this is fucking REVOLTING. LBGT voters? Under the bus. Marriage was a key issue in taking back the damn Senate.

4. How many of them were Republicans to begin with?
Or couldn't make up their mind what they were like Koch, Schumer, or Bloomberg?

6. It's increasingly clear that 'Democrat' isn't going to mean much unless we clean up the party
We have to find a way to get the scum thrown out during the primaries.

13. I think Obama is trying to clean up the party.
Blago is Obama's example to those Democrats who expect to get "paid off" to support the President-Elect's agenda. I think it's a brilliant move. I think greater party loyalty will be the result.

The United States is a LIBERAL Country.

16. Start looking at the seats that are decided by less than 7%
and start pointing out that they're in danger of losing that percentage in the next election.

I'm really starting to think the next Day without a Gay should be election day 2010.

If they've really supported us, they're entitled to our votes. If they're not, then, well, this 1400-issue voter isn't supporting them any more.

14. Thank Our Senate Leadership for the Lieberman fold.
It set the president for the "threat" that will be used with ever increasing regularity.
By not providing consequences for the worst of traitors, they have given the green lite for all faux Dems to act as republican as they want without need to fear any punishment of any kind.

It is "bad manners" now for Democrats to be expected to act as democrats.

17. New York State government has been dysfunctional for years . . .
and it doesn't look like it's getting any better . . . the upcoming budget should be a real doozy, transferring billions of dollars in costs to local governments . . . which will then have to either cut services drastically or raise taxes yet again . . .

19. What a shock
Not.

Andy and Ann were wondering on Gay USA if this might happen.

They were very cautiously optimistic after the election that things would change for the better in NY, and now it's looking doubtful.

20. Well, at least they are Democrats; that is all that matters after all
Who gives a rat's ass about fairness, equality and equal rights as long as there are more Democrats than Republicans?

:sarcasm:

Why the fucking Hell should gay people support Democrats again?

Still despicable but there's a window even if they closed the door this year.

22. Not so fast...
Today Malcolm Smith announced he would suspend negotitiations with the three dissidents.

http://www.stargazette.com/article/20081210/UPDATE/312100013

To quote the article:

He also apparently rejected the same-sex-marriage deal.

“We cannot limit the civil rights of New Yorkers,’’ he said.

Yay!

24. Hurrah for Malcolm Smith
I am old enough to remember Democrats not discussing desegregation for fear of offending Southern Democrats. It appears we haven't progressed very far since then.

Thanks for the update!
