Southern Baptists Hold Colleges Hostage Over Gays

Two Southern colleges where students sought to form LGBT groups have felt the full weight of the Baptist Church.

The Baptist General Association of Virginia has ended its 145 year affiliation with Averett University in Danville, Virginia and in Mars Hill, North Carolina the student government at Mars Hill College has voted not to permit the gay club to form after the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina threatened to cut off $1 million in annual funding.

The decision affecting Averett University was not unexpected. The school and the Southern Baptist Convention have been sparring for years. But, the dispute boiled over when Averett's newly formed Gay-Straight Alliance celebrated gay pride week in February. (story)

3. you'd think they'd be more open minded. . .
Let's review Jesus:

- Single guy back when being single wasn't OK
- Hung out with 12 (mostly single) guys all the time
- Lots of loose women around (and groupies) and he never hooked up with any of them

I'm not saying he is gay for sure but I do think it would be amusing for the GLBT community to adopt Jesus as a gay icon.

4. i suppose the southern baptists needed another excuse to show how they
killed jesus -- something the pharisees and sadusees of christ's time couldn't do.
