Slang terminology or jokes about GLBT are no longer acceptable.
Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 07:45 PM by Mike 03
A year ago, I would have probably skipped past that word without thinking of it at all, or worse yet, maybe scoffed at it, but when slang terms about gay peopel today, it jumped out at me and turned my stomach.

Since waking up this past couple of months, these slang terms for GLBT don't amuse me at all. There is nothing funny in this world about making fun of Gay or Lesbian people. When I see these words or hear them, my stomach churns. It's not funny.

It's time to erradicate those words from our vocabulary. The moment you realize you care about someone who is GLBT, or have cared about someone in your past who was GLBT, it's no longer funny, in the least, to try to turn them into comedy, no matter how literary.

Peace friends.

Mike

The problem with this is that you have gay people who still take part in this. Pretty much telling straights it's ok to do!

3. There's a difference
between mocking someone, and seeing the humor in your own life.

What the hell is so wrong with the latter?

4. Someone
Has mocked you on this board? Did you alert on them? The folks in the gay community here are very sensitive to the slightest misspeak right now{Yes with good reason}but I think they run the risk of losing some valuable allies when straight people who make an innocent faux pa are immediately attacked and dog piled for uttering said faux pa!

5. Oh, let me count the ways. (This post is kind of long.)

Let's see...
There is the post that states: "My best friend is gay"
Then there is the post that states: "Well, so and so gay person I know said gay people should shut up and never ask for rights again.
Then there is the post that states: "Oh, you are being too sensitive. Accept the beatings and murders and rapes, and GET OVER IT!"
Then there is the post that states: "This is not important. How dare you ask for rights at a time like this?"
Then there is the post that states: "Shut up until after the primaries!"
Then there is the post that states: "Shut up until after the general election!"
Then there is the post that states: "Shut up until re-election!"
Then there is the post that states: "Shut up!"
Then there is the post that states: "Fuck you. I'm sick of hearing about GLBT issues."
Then there is the post that states: "I'm gay and I don't believe in gay rights."
Then there is the post that states: "Help! I'm being persecuted by someone because I don't think they should have any say so in their own lives."

Then there is the post that states: "If you don't agree with me, I'm taking my ball and going home. I never wanted to support you to begin with anyway!"

There are tons of these. :eyes:

6. What
exactly is wrong with "My best friend is gay"? What if that persons best friend is gay? As far as the rest of what you posted I may have seen verbatim 2 maybe 3 of those. Are you saying that you have seen people post those exact things or are you taking creative license with what was actually said? You do realize that some of those posting those things are actually trolls don't you?
