1. My dad had the condition....
He had surgery to reattach it.
His vision is still spotty, but he's glad to be seeing anything.
It is painful while it heals.
Hopefully you will recover well and not have any more detachments.

3. did it require them putting a plastic "buckle" in your eye?
My husband's detached retina needed that, maybe a decade ago. Kind of a plastic ring around the inside of the eye, with a grommet snapped onto it on the outside to keep everything in place. It saved the vision in the less-bad of his eyes, and done the job very well. The downside is that barometric pressure changes affect him sometimes with eye aches and headaches, and he is not supposed to go up in aircraft.

4. My neighbor was violently ill with the pain from her detached retina.
We could hear their car start at 2 or 3 in the morning and found out those middle of the night trips were to Yale New Haven Hospital to deal with her constant vomiting and horrible pain. She's OK now but is now likely to get early cataracts (according to what she told me her doctor said).

5. Cataracts aren't so terrible.
They can be dealt with easily. But cataracts and a detached retina at the same time sound like a nightmare.

6. I know. I had my cataracts removed 5 years ago. But I am old. She is not.
My only point was that she would get them at a pretty early age (late 40s).

7. If they got to it in time, you should eventually have a full recovery
but will need to be alert in the future for things like a sudden increase in floaters or flashes of light that could signal an impending recurrence. Your doc might also suggest preventive "spot welding" laser surgery to prevent any future detachments.

Some personal stories are at http://www.medicinenet.com/retinal_detachment/discussion-187.htm

A good discussion of the recovery period is at http://www.christianet.com/lasiksurgery/retinaleyesurgeryrecovery.htm

8. I have a floatie in one of eyes
It is small but annoying. Feels like a small mosquito flying
in front of my face. I thought it would go away in a week or so,
but still there after 2 months. The optometrist said there is
nothing that can be done!

9. My optometrist told me the same, but..
I take Senior Vision by Puritan Pride and as long as I take it I have no floaters. I had more than one. If I stop taking it, they come back.

10. This is interesting. Which ingredient, do you suppose, is helping?
I have had horrible floaters most of my life and they drive me nuts, yet I am constantly told there is nothing that can be done about it.

I may have to try this.

11. These are the ingredients-
http://www.puritan.com/lutein-158/senior-eye-vision-002862

I think it is the combination that works.
I do know that Lutein and Bilberry (2 of the ingredients) are sup'd to be good for eyes.

If you decide to try it be sure you order when they have a special of buy one get one free.

This is another product I have used which seems to be good.
http://www.vrp.com/vision-and-sight/extension-vision

but it is more expensive, so I stay with puritan pride.

12. Thank you, I'm going to have to try this
I will most certainly notice if it does anything because my floaters are just so bad.

13. I hope it works for you,
I'd say give it a month before you decide if it's working.

Pls post, I'll be interested to see if it works for you.
