Update on H1N1 vaccine and direct correlation to onset of narcolepsy
http://www.thelocal.se/34044/20110528/

In 88 of the 93 cases, the agency has identified a direct correlation between the vaccine and the onset of narcolepsy, a sleep disorder causing extreme drowsiness and daytime sleep attacks.

According to the Swedish Association of Persons with Neurological Disabilities (Neurologiskt handikappades riksförbund - NHR), the agency is examining a further 135 cases involving children and will present its full findings later this summer.

snip

According to the WHO, the rates of narcolepsy reported in Sweden, Finland and Iceland were higher than those in other countries.

1. It's the LUTEFISK! Stay away from the lutefisk!
That explains it all. Combine flu vaccine and lutefisk and you're screwed.

On the other hand, it could also be cloudberries. All of those peoples eat those, too. We mustn't neglect the cloudberry association when we're assigning causes to effects.

2. Addition: It could be the smoked salmon, too.
Very popular in all three countries. Best not to get the flu vaccine if you eat that, either, I think.

Or the pickled herring, for that matter.

Uff da!

8. I like smoked salmon and pickled herring.
I don't care for lutefisk but I do have the H1N1 vaccination.

Maybe I'm screwed. I'll let everyone know at Thanksgiving when I have the smoked salmon, the turkey, and the warm milk all at once.

And I haven't heard anyone say "Uff da!" in years! :hi:

More to the point, the article states that a huge number of people in Europe alone have received the vaccine. If the article were interested in reporting the important news on the subject, rather than in generating a scare-induced response, then the headline would read something like

"Fewer Than 100 Cases of Narcolepsy Reported Among 31 Million Vaccinations."

4. what's the correlation between getting an active case of the virus and narcolepsy?
has anyone done such a study?

additionally, what is the mechanism by which the vaccine allegedly caused narcolepsy?

i've found that under close scrutiny, anti-vax woo dissolves like fog in direct sunlight. so i'm less than convinced there's a correlation.

5. That would be a good question.
It's better for you than the actual virus. How it could be that they are worse off, I don't get it.

Maybe it's a preservative, but the chances are that they used very standard stuff used in other flu vaccines (at the least, if not more), and not some new chemical. Now if they did use some new chemical for the vaccine, then that might be the cause.
