The Truth About "Erectile Dysfunction"
http://www.alternet.org/sex/151203/the_truth_about_%22erectile_dysfunction%22/

For many men, medical treatments for erectile dysfunction are ineffective because ED is often a psychological problem.

One of the most common sexual complaints men present to their primary care physicians is trouble “getting hard” and “keeping it up.” For the last 20 years the treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED) has improved tremendously with the advent of medications such as Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra. Over 75 percent of men taking these medications are able to restore erections. However, for the remaining 25 percent of men, medical treatments are largely ineffective. In addition, a high percentage of men stop taking their medication. This can be explained in part by the fact that ED is both a physical and psychological problem.

Identifying and Changing Beliefs About Sexual Performance

For starters, a lot of men carry the belief that sexual performance and having a firm erection is one of the most defining and important characteristics of every sexual experience. As men try to make sense of their ED, many traditional (and implicit) male values about sexuality are triggered. For example, the inability to maintain erection often leads to feelings of shame because many men believe that “real” men should be able to satisfy their partner. And the only—or best—way to satisfy their partner requires an erection. Some partners will hold similar expectations of the need for the satisfying partner that can serve to worsen the situation.

2. But it does allow me to express
my philosophy of life. A short back story- my doctor's office is filled with pamphlets, all of which deal with either erectile disfunction or urinary incontinence. Hence my slogan for life:

As long as I can hold it in and get it up, I'm O.K.

5. The doctor I just fired had recently deployed all kinds of pamphlets about Type 2 diabetes
It seems she was uninterested in diagnosing anything else, so when I determined I probably had something else I had to get a new doctor.

6. Whereas comments belittling an OP for caring about an issue you don't care about is truly
the best DU has to offer.

It's a health problem that affects not just men, but marriages, as well. And it carries deeply seeded cultural implications that other health problems, like say colds, do not. Seems worthy material for a GENERAL discussion forum. So long as people don't thread-shit, it could be an interesting discussion. So long as people don't thread-shit.

Ancient Egyptian physicians, for example, prescribed all sort of remedies, including mandrake root, to keep their clients erections as hard as a granite obelisk.

7. good article. it is good to see a little reality popping its head up on this subject.
we are really good at keeping women reality based in their sexuality, to the extreme, in the other direction. we have pumped male sexuality to god like and all encompassing awesomeness to the determent of males.

both does damage to both genders in many ways.

reality is not something to be afraid of.
