Socialist Medicine Strikes Again (and saves our butts)
Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 08:05 PM by Warpy
Some $40 billion spent on "Homeland Security" in 2004 and another $50
billion going into the same sinkhole in 2005, with billions of those dollars specifically targeting "bio terror," and a mistake (or stupid decision) by a biological lab made last fall had a deadly flu virus capable of creating a global pandemic getting mailed out to several thousand unsuspecting testing labs.

If just one of those test kits were to infect just one person who then went home on a rush-hour bus or subway, we could in no time have millions of people dying of flu-against which most people have zero immunity.

And how was this accidental terror "device" detected?

Not by the alert folks at Tom Ridge's or Mike Chertoff's Homeland Security Department, but by an alert technician working for the "socialist health care system" in Manitoba, Canada, who tested the virus in the kit and determined that it was the same strain of flu virus that caused a worldwide flu pandemic in 1957 and who immediately alerted the World Health Organization and the U.S. Center for Disease Control.

1. Oh, the evils of socialized healthcare....
Who knows what horrors it will cause next?!

Anyway, up here in Canada we do indeed have an awesome healthcare system. It really makes me wonder why the US hasn't adopted it. I mean, we pay (and by that I mean the government pays) less money per capita than is spent in the US, and we have healthier people. Is there some sort of hidden drawback that I haven't heard about?

3. You sure??
I thought we did pick our own doctor. I mean, not at the emergency room, but when you're there you shouldn't really care much. Maybe my family's just always been happy with our doctor. As for waiting in lines forever... the only guy I know who has had to have a heart bypass (in my memory... I am not that old) was completely done in about two weeks. So I was very confused by these horror stories of having to wair for 6 months or so.

research for them instead of looking into the subject and learn something.

Yes, you get to choose your own doctor in Canada. Yes, you do get prompt emergency care. Yes, you may have to wait longer than a well insured coproate executive for elective procedures, but increasingly in the US, you're not going to get those procedures at all, thanks to insurance company resistance to actually funding your care if you even HAVE insurance, which more and more of us don't.

Given a choice between the "primitive" universal care in a place like Cuba and the fabulous care here that I can't afford, I'll choose Cuba.

But I'd rather have Canada...
