What do the letters "emb" stand for in medical jargon?
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 01:13 PM by Radio_Lady
I'm trying to figure out what this sentence means:

"I agree that polypectomy could be overkill, but I'd disagree with emb. I think that emb is notoriously bad at removing polyps."

I've tried to search those three letters in a medical dictionary, but can't find out what it means.

Thanks so much.

PS. If you'd be kind enough to send me a private message about this, I'd be very appreciative. Thanks again....

4. Embolization, perhaps?
That is when they put little beads in at the site to kill off a tumor by starving it of a blood supply. The -ectomy refers I think to cutting out the polyp.

Not a doctor, though, so I might be wrong.

5. I agree with MassDem
is just what I was going to post, embolization - cutting off the blood supply.

7. Well, it looks like "endometrial biopsy" makes the most sense in
this case, reading down on the chart.

Thanks for your help. The whole exchange makes sense now.
