Adverse reactions, vaccines and VAERS.
In the many recent topics on Guardasil much reference has been made to adverse reactions, vaccines and VAERS. The following statement was in one article, "The TGA has received 1013 reports of suspected adverse reactions to Gardasil, including soreness, swelling, redness or other reaction at the injection site (20percent), headaches (20percent), dizziness (15percent), nausea (16percent) and vomiting (6.9percent)." People have these same reactions to an injection of Normal Saline. If you stick a needle in someones arm and inject a liquid into the muscle is their arm being sore the next day an adverse reaction? Is them experiencing a vasovagal reaction, an adverse effect of the injection or of the vaccine? I have a friend whose wife gets dizzy, nauseous and sometimes passes out if she is approached with a needle. I have a paramedic friend who passes out every time they try and give him a shot, don't worry he can give them just fine. Many of these symptoms can be attributed to a vasovagal reaction. Should those be reported to VAERS? If you believe so can you tell me what is physiologically taking place and what in the vaccine specifically is causing that physiological reaction? I really don't want the continued flame war, but this is a great place to bounce ideas off a wide variety of people. Thanks in advance for your input.

1. I think the parents of the girls that have died
after their injection would believe anything adverse to be reported and investigated concerning this drug to be extremely important. I don't believe this vaccine is safe by any means.

In general, I think the whole idea of "oh, that's just normal/per so many hundreds.." needs to be re-examined entirely, but of course there is a whole group of DUers who will blast me off into space or the dungeon just for speaking my opinion.

2. Serious reactions clearly need to be reported.
Injection site soreness for a period of time less than 24 hours without any other symptoms, in my opinion, is not an adverse reaction to a vaccine it's a normal reaction to having your tissues punctured with a needle and having any fluid injected into those tissues. When people die from a vaccine, medication or procedure then it should be investigated thoroughly. I do think when it comes to vaccines you have to look at the greater good and do a proper cost vs. benefit analysis. Granted that will be very hard to do with a vaccine that is likely to not obviously help many people for many years. I appreciate your input.

3. I guess I should have put Guardasil in the title if I wanted people to respond.
Maybe flame fests are a good thing.

4. Pretty much.
I and another poster also started VAERS threads to help foster understanding, and they also sunk like rocks. Facts are uninteresting. Claims of global conspiracies to murder little girls, now THAT'S interesting!

5. I'll retitle it "Merck & Bush Co Guardasil conspiracy to kill women who vote democratic"
I bet that will generate some interest.

6. Don't feel bad
I thought my OP on the kinesio tape being used on the Olympic volleyball players was way more interesting than any of the more recent OPs on vaccines, and it only got two responses.

7. I don't.
Just kind of funny I really thought I might learn something from the rabid anti-vaccine posters.

9. kick for the medical experts in this forum
They should be able to answer your questions.

I'm amazed none of them have even tried.

10. You'd think with this caliber of brain power currently posting
we could have gotten better responses.

Maybe I'm overestimating.

11. I know, especially with all the measle lovers here tonight.
I mean, how bad could it be, a few spots, a little discomfort and then you're fine.

No worse than a zit, really.
