Drug companies drop the ball on safety studies
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/11657071/

WASHINGTON - Drug companies have yet to even begin nearly two in three of the follow-up studies they agreed to undertake once their medicines were on the market, according to a government tally released Friday.

.........................................snip

Dr. Jerry Avorn, a Harvard Medical School professor and author of “Powerful Medicines,” in which he criticizes the FDA’s post-marketing system, said the numbers show the system is broken.

“This new information is an embarrassing continuation of similar reports issued by FDA each year on the appalling state of the medication safety studies it has 'mandated' drug manufacturers to perform. It is scandalous that of the supposedly active studies, about two-thirds haven’t even been started yet,” Avorn said.

............snip

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., introduced legislation last year that would give the FDA added authority to require drug companies to carry out studies of their drugs once they’ve been approved and are being sold.

2. here are some LINKS,.. over 300 people, many children, have died taking
Strattera like drugs.. many have died from 'Sudden Death Syndrome', i was perscribed Strattera with no tests to identify my condition.. i was never diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or anything.

i fell into a deep DARK place, tha i can only call an halunication, of a place where everyone was dead or going to be dead, i could not remove the bodies, i am 57 with a bad back, so i was going to have to leave and go someplace else, only everybody was going to be dead there too, so i was resolving to just to have to go sit some place and die.

i flushed that shit and i have never entirely recovered, i have what i can only discrive as blackouts.. i cant find anything, i am still disturbed by the images of hopeless terrable death.

check these links out...

3. I hear ya!
So sorry. It's all about creating a market, isn't it?

After my daughter had a terrible reaction to Cipro (WHILE DRIVING--she came very close to passing out and having a wreck) I pretty much stay away from medical doctors to the extent possible. I just don't trust the advice they get from the pharmaceutical reps. Remember someone here started that thread about being afraid to go to the doctor...........Believe me, I know they can often do great things and if I really needed to go to an MD, I would of course. Fortunately, the acupuncturist and the NAET practitioner have been able to take care of most stuff, and it was those modalities that over the course of time brought my daughter back to functioning at about 95-99% of her pre Cipro health.

So, I would say don't give up. There are some alternatives that can probably undo a lot of the damage.
