What is MDVIP?

We've received a letter from the doctor. He is affiliating with MDVIP, focusing on prevention and wellness, and reducing his practice to 600 patients.

It costs $1500 to join.

Anybody have additional info?

5. that's what I thought, for the uber-rich

and the doctor is well-compensated

$1500 x 600 patients = $900000 the doctor receives annually, plus reimbursements from insurance

I think we will be finding a different doctor soon

8. That's gross income . He/she will have to pay for office
space, utilities, equipment/supplies, salaries for office staff ( a receptionist and a medical assistant or nurse will still be needed) etc etc

...so far , a small minority of Ins. companies have refused to deal with these guys.

YOU , yes you, are still expected to either have Insurance or pay out of pocket......from their own web-site....

MDVIP, Insurance and Medicare Compatibility
Insurance is often a confusing and puzzling subject. At MDVIP we make it simple.

Here is what you need to know:

• MDVIP is not insurance. It is not a PPO or an HMO.
• MDVIP is not Medicare.
• MDVIP is perfectly compatible with most insurance plans.
• MDVIP is perfectly compatible with Medicare.
• MDVIP is a personalized healthcare program that focuses on prevention and early detection – things not covered by most insurance.

10. The doctor in my area is eschewing medical insurance reimbursements
She won't have to spend time or money dealing with the insurance company beancounters.
She will have more time to be with her patients.
That's the model that I think may have promise.

11. So then she's billing patient directly for full cost of treatment...
she must be... no doctor is going to give premium service for $1500-1800 a year?

2. It sounds like a subscription service where you pay a lot of money in
advance to have access to your doctor, but avoid a lot of insurance hassles. You can come in to see your doctor whenever you need to without going through your insurance company and without wracking up co-pays. A lot of services are free because you paid in advance with your subscription. A lot of doctors are going this route now.

If you can afford the big hit up front it gives you much better care, no rush anymore when you see your doctor, but how many people can afford that much money PER PERSON? And that's a pretty low subscription cost compared to what I've been hearing about around here.

4. I've heard of these practices referred to as "boutique" as they cater to
individual subscribers.

6. I think it is an interesting concept
Edited on Wed Jun-03-09 12:13 PM by REACTIVATED IN CT
There was an article in the local paper (New Haven Register) on Monday about a doctor in Guilford who has been doing this for a while. Another one in my town is joining up.

There is no insurer involved - it removes all the paperwork, pre-approvals, denials, etc from primary care. You can get as much care as you need and never an insurance claim.

I have an employer provided HSA and could pay for "membership" with those funds - but don't think my HDHP insurer would count this towards my deductible so I'd need more money for that if I had to be hospitalized.

So I've been thinking about this all week. What if all primary care was provided this way ? Could that be integrated into a National Health Plan where you would need insurance for hosptalization and surgery and such ?

I don't think this is quite the same as MDVIP
