Balloon treats blocked sinuses
They're using balloons to open up coronary arteries. Why not sinuses?

"In the past we have used instruments that cut and remove tissue to open up the sinuses, now was are using a balloon to stretch the opening, so there is less scarring in the recovery period and the results will last for longer," said Claire Hopkins, a rhinology Fellow at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

The technology uses a tiny balloon that is put up the nose via a flexible tube and then slowly inflated to release the blockage and widen the passage.

Guy's and St Thomas' is the first trust in Europe to offer the latest step in this technology.

Rather than removing the balloon on the same day, it is left in place for a month... gradually deflates and delivers steroids to where they are needed.

1. I have had two sinus surgeries and they are not fun ~

I never had headaches but it was done at the hospital and for the next 5 days it was uncomfortable. I had to breath threw a straw like device in my nose.

This sounds like it can bring relief to so many people.

Thanks for posting.

2. I had a friend who had the surgery and it did nothing for him
he looked like he'd been beaten up by a drug gang when he was done.

4. I do understand -- I suffered so much and when I came back
home from the Mid West( Sinus problems constantly there) and once again lived in CA, my Sinus Problems were really a mess.

I was taking so many meds and a friend suggested I try her Specialist.

He is fantastic! But --- after the first surgery I didn't follow up like I should have with the doctor visits and didn't take the Meds like I should have --

Well -- in two year I was back to square one.

For 3 years, after the 2nd surgery, I have been taking Allergy Shots once a week AND I see the doctor every 6 weeks, never miss.

So far the doctor says I am doing great with the sinus problem.

Some people say the shots don't work but they seem to be working for me.

If this new surgery can bring relieve to people, I am thrilled.

3. Why not? Once upon a time, we thought it was smart
to shoot zinc up your nose. How could a small dirigible be that much worse?
