Gov't can't run Cash for Clunkers - and you want to trust them with your health care?
Edited on Fri Aug-21-09 08:21 AM by YewNork
Latest on news from opponents. They're arguing the fact that the government isn't reimbursing dealers fast enough for the
cash for clunkers program (or so the dealers are saying), and that this proves they couldn't run a health insurance system.

Of course, they're leaving out the part that the majority of people would still be insured under their existing insurers, and
that the government would take a bit more time setting up the public option to make sure that the mechanisms for timely processing of
claims was in place.

3. They'll all use it as an example. If anyone in the Obama administration wants to stop this...to
they'll pour all their resources into getting this problem fixed ASAP.

7. Does anyone now if the program promised reimbursement within a specific timeframe.
Of course, it takes time to set up any program, and this program was much more successful than they expected, but the Dept of Transportation needs to react
quickly on this to remedy the problem.

8. The dealers buy the cars on a floor plan
with in a day or so after a car is sold they have to pay it in full to who ever they got their financing from. The delay in getting them money is putting them in a bind.

9. The point is that the White House needs to react to put out this fire quickly.
Unfortunately, they don't seem to be reacting that fast to problems of how things are perceived by the public and perception is reality.

If you don't think Limbaugh and Hannity won't be all over this, you're kidding yourselves.

5. True. But opponents of reform won't mention that.
When did this program start and how long have the dealers actually been waiting?

Was there any timeframe specified to the dealers as to how long it would take to pay them?

The Dept of Transportation needs to pull out all the stops to get this moving.

Anyone who would buy this argument has their mind made up anyway.

The insurance companies need not worry about a public plan causing people to abandon private insurance.

15. Medicare and doctors
I definitely think Medicare should have higher reimbursement rates for doctors, and root out fraud.

However, when I went on Medicare, I lost none of my doctors, and the couple of times since then that I've needed a specialist, the most highly recommended ones took Medicare. I think doctors not taking Medicare is more talked about than actually happening.

14. Yes, that's why they wouldn't use it. Their goal is to defeat reform.

16. Dealers thrilled
According to news articles in my neck or the woods, dealers have been thrilled with Cash for Clunkers in terms of increased sales, and it helped Ford substantially since the Ford Focus was the most bought replacement car. Unless the reimbursement stuff really fails, this ought to be easy to rebut.
