Co-ops
Interesting article about Group Health Co-op in WA. I worked for them years ago, and they are a good model in many ways, particularly in the fact that they are member owned and run. But I don't think they are "the answer" because they can't keep costs down enough.

1. Suggestion....
How about this?

We pass a bill which will set up co-ops immediately, and also initiate a triggered public option. If in three years the co-ops have failed to bring down costs, we pull the trigger and institute a public option.

This would be a reasonable and pragmatic compromise, and private health insurance companies will be very motivated to start getting their house in order.
