Are You Happy With Your Health Insurance?
Are You Happy With Your Health Insurance?

Not me.

You know, since I don't actually HAVE any.

So recently I was interested to learn from our illustrious "right" that "the majority of people are very happy with their health insurance".

Really?

Well, we thought we'd just build a quick site with a poll to actually SEE how and what people were doing for health insurance; I don't know, maybe everyone IS happy with their health insurance.

Anyway, please take a moment to visit and participate in our poll:

1. I am in no position to answer that
I have not yet made a major claim on my plan.

Sure the benefits look good on paper, but who knows until you have to actually use it.

4. Same for me.
I really haven't gone to the doctor since we got this new plan at the start of 2009. I got one prescription and paid $15 for it.

Some of my co-workers, including one with cancer, says the plan sucks for major stuff. :(

3. No - our deductable is $2,500 -
and some expenses are flat out of pocket. When my son was born in 2001, it was $300 out of pocket with insurance, my daughter was born in 2005 - $2,000 out of pocket. It took over a year to pay it off. I can only hope nothing drastic happens to any of us - we would go bankrupt.

16. My deductible is $4300
but I am thankful to have the insurance which is 85% subsidized by my employer. I max my HSA every year. This is my 3rd year in the plan, and I am using HSA dollars from the first year to pay for my daughter's braces.

Since we are healthy, and my employer chips in $1300/yr into the HSA we have only paid about $1600/yr for the first two years (all premiums). Our expenses were about matched by the employer's contribution. I have not yet seen the bill for my daughter's CATSCAN so I suspect I am going to really hit my HSA this year.

It hurts everytime we go to the doctor though ($90 for an office visit). While the money comes out of the HSA, I sure would like to be able to save it for future medical needs.

I am ready to sign up for a 8%/8% German style health plan. I would lose a little on the deal (especially in those years with low medical expenses), but I want the portability and the social guarantee that goes along with the insurance (if I lose my job I am not expected to come up with $12K/yr until I find another job). I also want piranhas on the government side negotiating with every health care and drug company provider driving them to the lowest dollar figure. We should not pay more for our drugs than any other developed country.

6. Yes - I pay nothing for decent coverage - my employer pays
Edited on Sun Sep-13-09 09:06 PM by stray cat
I have a copay of $20 for office visits and prescriptions. $100 for emergency rooms but waved if I am admitted. No deductible for anything. A good choice of doctors and hospitals. I've been to the ER twice under the plan - no problems at all with payments from the insurance company. I didn't even have to show my insurance card at the hospital because it was in their system - no ID check.

9. You have one of those "cadillac" plans! :-)
Ours isn't that good. We have to pay a monthly premium, but it's still better than many plans I've heard about.

11. Actually it falls well below the levels of the cadillac plans - way below those to be taxed.

no family though - I would have to pay in some for a family plan - but still nothing to complain about. We need good reform -but I have it pretty good.

7. I have a very good plan through my employer.
However, if I retire (which I really need to do), I would be without health care until I'm eligible for Medicare.

It's the old rock and a hard place.

10. I have Medicare
and so far I'm happy with it. I'm not happy with the fact that tey means tested the part B premums in 2007 and charged us an extra $384 per month base d on our income in the only year in the past ten where we had a higher than normal income (capital gains from selling some property).

Hopefully that will be redjusted in 2010.

12. No, I know its absolute shit. any major need to access the ins. would cause
our family financial ruin.. and it costs more money this year for less coverage.. oh and employer changed providers without asking or caring.

13. I have both Medicaid and Medicare. Here in MN that means I had to
Edited on Sun Sep-13-09 09:20 PM by jwirr
select a plan from many plans - not including the option of staying on the two government plans. So I am covered by Medica just like my daughters - one on MN-Care and the other from work. We all have good care. However, I originally had Humana for Medicare Part D and after one year they wanted to charge $8.00 more a month out of pocket on a $600 a month social security check, so I left them. I and the daughter on MN-Care also pay copays.

I am afraid of them raising the cost again but otherwise we get good coverage.

15. Yes. But like everyone else there is no guarantee ....
that I will get to keep it. If there is no real reform the cost to me will definitely go up or my deductible will increase.
Right now it's $35 a month and I have a $500 deductible. I have just about met my deductible and they are reimbursing me $150 for a pair of prescription sunglasses that I bought.
I don't know offhand what my employers cost for my plan is. It's a not for profit blood center and I trust them to make every effort to keep it affordable. I'm not concerned about a public option of some kind causing me to lose my plan. It could be that if the public option is good enough that they would drop our plan and I'd have to go that way.

17. No. Employer based, it went from $11 mo to $337 mo. in 4 years with high deductible now.
$500 deductible, 20% co-pays after that.

My husband is on Medicare, being treated for colon cancer. If it were me, we'd be hurting bad, financially.

And my insurance is through a Fortune 100 company.

18. I'm not happy with my health insurance because
I'm choosing to get help with my nutrition and hormonal changes and things that will help me avoid heart disease, stroke and cancer.

I choose to be proactive and take responsibility for my health, but very little of this is paid for by my insurance. It does not cost too much, but just enough that it's quite a strain on our budget.

It would be so cost effective for us to get ahead of the diseases and actually PREVENT them. Think of the monetary savings.

Think of the pain and suffering that could be alleviated.

cover pre-existing conditions.
