Green Tea Catechins and Abdominal Fat Loss - Chemicals that help you lose weight
A study in the Fall 2009 issue of "Scan's Pulse" published by the Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition covers something that anyone who cares about their health or their weight should know. The article by Tia M. Rains, PhD; Barbara Anderson, MS, RD; and Kevin C. Maki PhD is a report on a scientific study of the effect of Green Tea Catechins on nutrition.

The study found that habitual Consumption of green tea was shown to affect overall body fat, and waist circumference. The newsletter is not published on the Internet. But, essentially, the study has shown that consuming 4 to 6 cups of brewed green tea will aid in the reduction of both weight and abdominal circumference.

So for those of you who are trying to lose weight, maintain your weight, or simply stay healthy, drinking green tea is a positive and scientifically proven way to help.

Anyone that might want more information, just ask. I will extract the information from the newsletter

2. The dose given of Green Tea Catechin in the study was 583 milligrams a day...
The study states:
The catechin content in brewed green tea can vary depending on growing conditions, manufacturing processes, and actual process of brewing.

So, depending on conditions, 4 to 6 brewed cups of tea (that would be 6 ounce cups with 1 teabag each) would give the amount used in the study.

I brew tea in the morning all at once, then keep in in the refrigerator and drink it through the day.

5. The article does not note any downside.
It does state that you should not use decafienated Green tea.

So as long as you don't load it up with sugar, it can not hurt.

11. You'll pee your brains out
because tea is a mild diuretic.

There should be no down side. My friends from China guzzle green tea all day long.

4. I started drinking green tea almost a year ago. Gained 30 lbs.
I eat like a hog at the trough, though, so YMMV

6. So are there a lot of Japanese people with tiny waists?
My mom is Japanese and drinks at least 6 cups a day every day, and has for the last 80+ years. She's not really fat but I would not say she has a small waist.

12. Chinese markets have a green tea with jasmine flower
in a gold tin. I love the stuff and the hint of flowery flavor as I sip makes it unnecessary to doctor it up with sugar or anything else.

9. The research did not say you can not get fat using green tea.
What it said that within your complete diet, and by diet I mean you eating pattern, not a special pattern to loose weight, Green tea has a beneficial effect with weight.

Over eating, and most Americans overeat (I have been no exception) Will lead to some weight gain.

There are drugs that have a side effect of causing people to gain weight, no matter how little they consume. I've seen a number of articles, some of them here, that show evidence that chemicals in our food exacerbate weight gain. (Corporations seem to like us fat.) Green Tea is shown to be a food that helps to loose weight. But eating is more than just a means of fueling our bodies. It is a social drug (eating out), an anti-depresent (eating to get over the blues or heart break), a stimulant (people working night shifts eat to wake them up), and many other things.

I don't believe in simple answers anymore. Green Tea is something to add to the habitual diet that has beneficial effects on the human body.
