Northern California grocery chain recalls cantaloupes -- salmonella found on routine testing

After the spinach contamination affected a member of my family, I have been a bit paranoid about the possibility of contamination of fruits and vegetables. I hope these canteloupes don't come toward the midwest.

A Northern California grocery chain has recalled cantaloupes sold in its stores after detecting salmonella in the fruit during routine testing.

Raley's, a chain centered in the Sacramento area but with locations as far south as Salinas and in Nevada, has voluntarily recalled 1,120 cartons of Del Monte whole cantaloupes because of possible contamination.

The store said cantaloupes currently on its shelves are not affected.

1. I'll be following this story VERY closely.

I work in a retirement community, in the kitchen, where I cut copious amounts of fresh cantaloupe on a daily basis. Scary.
