FDA gives approval to Valeant's generic Cannabis {chemo amelioration}
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given approval to Valeant Pharmaceuticals International's synthetic Cannabis drug Cesamet.

The drug is meant for use in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy to control nausea and vomiting when traditional drug and control methods do not work. Valeant touts the drug's durability, saying it only requires two daily doses.

Cesamet's active ingredient is a synthetic form of the active ingredient in Cannabis, or marijuana.

Valeant acquired Cesamet from Eli Lilly & Co. LLY · News · Profile in 2004 and currently sells Cesamet in Canada.

1. Similar to marinol, which has been around for years.
It's a schedule II drug, used for the same purposes. Unfortunately with marinol there are drawbacks and for those who are too nauseated to keep down a pill, smoking is better.

4. Oh come on...It's different and works because the Pharm companies can make
mega bucks from it. ;) When they say good old fashioned REAL marijuana doesn't have any medicinal value they mean that it doesn't have any $$$$ value to big pharm companies that are putting out the feedbag to Reps in DC. If the pharm companies can't make big bucks on it then it must be belittled and attacked.... well... until they can figure out how to make $$$ from it.
