One-shot radiotherapy 'success against breast cancer'

A single dose of radiation during surgery is just as effective as a prolonged course of radiotherapy for breast cancer, a study suggests.

Doctors have tested the technique, which involves a single shot of radiotherapy to a tumour site, in more than 2,000 patients.

It could save the UK �15m a year, the researchers said.

Cancer Research UK said The Lancet study could have a "huge impact" for patients.

1. That's amazing.

Going to radiation week after week, dealing with burned skin, feeling tired all the time, and various aches and pains it causes is not fun. And I didn't even have very much, like some people have to have. This sounds like a great idea.

2. I am almost finished my radiation therapy

28 sessions. My skin is blistered, I have a problem under my arm where the stitches were and it itches and burns fierce. I wish it would have been used for me.
