FDA issues stiff warning
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 12:19 PM by Orrex
Is that a dietary supplement in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

It's a good thing that alternative medicine doesn't hurt anyone and doesn't engage in fraudulent practice, unlike the AMA, FDA, and ADA.

Snarky? You bet!

2. Kind of a broad statement about "alternative" medicine....
Are you sure that no one has ever been injured?

7. That's why it was self-labeled as "snarky"
I'm quite confident that a great many people have been harmed by "alternative" "medicine," either directly or as a consequence of avoiding actual medicine in favor of some unproven but popular quack remedy.

4. So the warning was based on the ingredients
that are illegal because BIG PHARMA OWNS THEM? Not because they are potentially dangerous?

What a joke.

5. Absolutely right.
If Pfizer sells it then it magically becomes safe (and you probably aren't allowed to sue them if something goes wrong anyway) but if you buy it from someone else then it's dangerous.

6. Way to misstate the case
Of course it's not "magically" safe because Pfizer sells it. The contents of the drug are regulated by the FDA, and therefore the consumer is protected from misrepresentation and fraudulent practice. Yes, abuse still occurs, but is it your assertion that the drug industry would be made safer if the regulating body were eliminated?

If only we had an example of an unregulated industry that offers products claiming to yield considerable and verifiable health benefits, all without having to worry about the burdens of independent testing or honest advertising.

Oh wait, we have a perfect example--the so-called "health supplement" industry, which is unregulated and therefore can and frequently does engage in every sort of misrepresentation that it can get away with.

It's also interesting that a so-called "herbal supplement" would include an artificial drug. No doubt the makers would claim that it's the ginseng root or rhino horn that yields the actual effect--I suspect that the sildenafil is just filler.
