Are you happy with your Medicare Supplemental plan?
What supplemental plan do you have and are you satisfied with it?

I have to admit I'm tardy about signing up for a Medicare supplemental plan.

1. I have one thru my husband's union, AFSME, but it will only last til next year (he's
been laid off). After that, I plan to explore AARP's plan. I have heard it is a good one, but I don't know myself. I just know we'll probably be paying more for less and HCR probably won't make much of a difference...

3. I don't have one at the moment, just too expensive but my neighbors
have Humana, and I believe that is what AARP sells. They are quite happy with their coverage but I don't know the cost.

2. be aware,,,
...of the difference between Medigap plans and other plans. The Medigap plans are set by law; coverage is standard no matter who the provider is. A plan F is the same for Blue Cross as it is for Kaiser. The details are clearly spelled out. An Advantage plan is like an HMO, with caps and exclusions and no federally set coverage. Insurers love to sell those to people, and shoppers must really beware about them.

5. Satisfied so far. No restrictions, no co-pays, no deductibles.
No bills. Nada Zip Zilch from doctors or hospitals...only statements as to what it cost and what was paid. We have a private policy. Costs about $140 per mo. each.

8. Pricing is unfair

The cost to consumers should be tied to income. It isn't. I can't afford to pay $100-150 a month.

9. Supplemental...
I have my supplemental through Mutual of Omaha and am very pleased with it. Several of my friends have it, too, and I've never heard a complaint about it. They pick up everything and there is never a problem. I highly reccommend it.

10. Mine's a group plan through Cal PERS administered by Blue Cross
Six months ago I wouldn't have been able to tell you whether it was any good or not. But I've had cataract surgery in December and so far the only money I've had to shell out were some modest co pays for prescriptions (five or ten bucks a pop). My premiums are paid through my former employer as part of my retirement package, but I have to pick up the cost for my wife (about $100 a month IIRC).

11. UHC. Just signed up for supplemental.
Edited on Sat Jan-09-10 07:37 PM by TheCowsCameHome
I had UHC prior to hitting 65. Heard from many friends that their Medicare supplemental is good, $155 a month.

AARPs' looked to be the same coverage, but the premium was higher and loads of forms to fill out.

12. If you're tardy, you're plan is...
...whatever they gave you.

As for mine, ask me again in a couple weeks. Mine got changed January 1 and I haven't used it yet.
