WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Clay Shaw, a Fort Lauderdale Republican, today will unveil details of what he hopes will be a Social Security reform proposal more acceptable to critics of President Bush's plan, his office said Wednesday.

Shaw, who until last month was chairman of the House Social Security subcommittee, would not divert money from the current system. Bush's proposal would.

Shaw's voluntary plan calls for workers to use up to 4 percent of their earnings to set up a Social Security Guarantee Account. Workers would decide how the money is invested. They would continue to contribute 6.2 percent of their salary to the traditional Social Security program.<snip>
