A hopelessly lame and vague request for info?

About three years ago I heard about a project in which computer users could download a specially-written screensaver program that would crunch numbers for, I think , some kind of gene-typing or similar genetic data processing while one's computer was otherwise "at rest." The idea was to get a zillion different computers working out the permutations and ultimately sending the results back to the download-source.

But because of one too many blows to the head, that's all I remember. Does this ring a bell for anyone? Was it ever implemented? Where does it stand now?

If no one recalls anything like it, I'll do a little more searching and report back when I find something.
