NOVA - Cuttlefish, the kinds of camoflage.
Did anyone catch this episode? I also posted youtube link of the cuttlefish, and check out the related video.

One of the most mystifying creatures of the deep, the cuttlefish has abilities and even senses that are alien to us humans. This versatile animal can change its appearance at will, mimicking floating vegetation or rocks on the seafloor. Yet when danger looms, the animal can jet away at great speeds, shooting out a smoke screen of ink or using its ink to create decoys of itself. How does the cuttlefish accomplish all this? Below, take a look at select parts of this octopus relative and learn more about how this master of deception and disguise functions.

1. I stumbled across it,
and I was mesmerized. I had no idea.

What an absolutely brilliant piece of work is the cuttlefish - and gorgeous, too.

Did you see them being born, breaking out of their sacs? Unbelievable photography.

I want to see the whole thing again. And again. Thanks for the links.

2. Yeah, that was just fascinating.
Bizarre, hypnotic light shows on their skin, unbelievable camouflage abilities -- body shape, skin texture, color, everything -- and a new little group that's poisonous and seems to know it.

Great show!

6. Nothing to be ashamed of -- I like 'em raw!
...on a bit of rice with a wasabi-tinged soy dipping sauce.

5. This whole video is amazing, the end is cuttlefish
and is totally jaw dropping. If you haven't seen it, take the 5 minutes or so and watch it now.

7. kinGs of camouflage?
This reminded me of "The Cuttlefish Capital of the World", Whyalla, OZ, where you can dive with schools of giant cuttlefish in their annual breeding swarm. Unfortunately, the old Whyalla web page is no more, though a new one seems to be under construction. But you can see some great photos at Prof. Woods' Ceph page:
