7. Wow. I have seen one of those.

Completely restored. Just driving down the road and I saw one
parked in a driveway. I stopped and backed up just to have a look.
The owner came out of the house and waved for me to come closer.
It was in his family for years and he had ridden in it when he was a young man.
It was his grandfathers machine, which he loving restored over the years.
He didn't offer me a ride.

Thanks for the video. NH is not that far away from me I'll check out when the
next meet is. I'd love to see it live.

5. Very cool machine - it looks practically impossible to get stuck...

The load is spread out over a larger tread area than a conventional, wheeled vehicle. And the screw tread design would simply drill the vehicle out of the snow.

However...

That poor horse!!! The rider kept hitting him even though he was stuck in the snow!!! What a massive prick!:grr:

Cool vehicle, but a disturbing video...:(

15. Some design and material ideas I've had about sand and water.

The basic idea is a screw. Like a screw pulls itself into wood or any material
softer than the screw.
Sand is very abrasive so material of construction is important. Perhaps something
slippery would be a good material(maybe nylon on uhmwpp).
As for water the root to pitch ratio could be lengthened.

Might make a great airship also. No external propellers.
Just thinking out loud.

I do see why it did not make the market though - it's restricted to fairly wide open spaces

Up here in Northern Ontario - alot of bush around here

but WAY up north - like I say - put a regular vehicle body/cab on top,

It could be a cool ride

wonder about fuel economy though . . .

but still - It was a real interesting video

and yeah, if those "screws" are water/air tight - if ya ever went through the ice - just float your way out!

17. There is an artic research machines....

...that has screw-drive for its main propulsion. When the snow is decent, both rollers spin the same way like a steamroller. When things get difficult the simply make the screws counter-rotate so it bores through the snow. It's designed to be driven in either direction. And the screws are big enough to provide plenty of buoyancy so it can cross rivers and lakes and even short ocean distances.
