Free Shuttle parts
"The space shuttle main engines are now free. NASA advertised them for $400,000 to $800,000 each in December 2008, but no one expressed interest. So now the engines are available, along with *other shuttle artifacts*, for the cost of transportation and handling."

8. Of more interest is the second laser in the lot of two.

The COHERENT INOVA 300 LASER WITH with power supply. Both lasers are sold in the same "lot".

There is another Inova 300 for sale (along with a matching Laserpure 60 Dye circulator for $1500 + $250 shipping on Ebay.

The pictures look very similar.

The GSA auction says that the two lasers might not be in working order.

10. I bid on some GSA stuff in the early 90's before there were pretty pictures on the net
I was into recording equipment back then and thought a "multi-track flight recorder" would be a fun thing to play with. Got it for $5.00 sight unseen, it turned out to be the size of two refrigerators and weighed thousands of pounds. I had to forfeit it because I couldn't haul it away. I ended up having to pay the scrap hauler.

Live Government auctions are really fun too. I had to stop going because I bought too much crap. :)

11. Yes, I bid on a "lot" of stuff that I knew about
Two computer racks full of "gigabit" routing hardware (from a now defunct company). I didn't want any of the routers (which probably still worked but were horribly out of date). What I wanted were the racks! (very nice 19" standard racks with all of the mounting hardware, smoked glass front doors, powered ventilation fans, power strips, etc).

Unfortunately, they came in a "lot" (about 4 pallets) of other metal cabinets. Bought it all for $20. Paid $120 to rent a moving truck with a lift gate. Got 4 of my friends to help (pizza for everyone, another $50 with beer). Took everything to the local metal recycler... box of copper wire in one of cabinets ($100 to me). Total cost $90. Two computer racks worth maybe $1000 bucks each. Sold one on Ebay for $500 (they pick it up), now I'm up $410 plus I have my own computer rack (which is now in storage :( )
