CERN News - Nov 10, 2010: First Heavy Ions in the LHC
Edited on Mon Nov-15-10 03:34 PM by LongTomH
This was just posted to YouTube, although the video is from Nov 10. Some great graphics to explain how LHC works, plus explain the use of heavy (lead) ions.

With the use of the lead ions, the LHC is producing unprecedented collision energies. They're beginning to recreate conditions similar to those that reigned shortly after the Big Bang.

Edited to add: More news at the CERN website.
