Bill O'Reilly explains his tides comments
and exposes himself to be an even pinhead (if that was even possible).

A recap for anyone who missed this story. A couple of weeks ago, Billo had Dave Silverman of American Atheists on his show because there's no one Billo hates more than atheists.

O’Reilly: I’ll tell you why religion's not a scam. In my opinion, all right? Tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can’t explain that.

Cue the ICP: 'Fucking tides, how do they work?'

So apparently Billo has heard the derision over the last few weeks and took it upon himself to explain himself in Sarah Palin fashion, by releasing a video on the Intertubes and only succeeded in working his foot further down his GI tract.

Watch the hilarity here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyHzhtARf8M

How did we have and Mars doesn't?

ProTip Billo, Mars has TWO moons, not ZERO!

1. It's a wonder he can figure out how to chew food and swallow.
Probably needs an instruction manual--pictorial, of course.

2. O'Reilly is one of America's highest paid morons
He is loved at FOX because his brand of ignorance & madness is easily packaged and sold to their idiot viewers.

5. They sure are pretty small

And they really look like captured asteroids.

As far as I know there are so many theories how the moon formed, and scientists don't know what really happened.

The earth's moon is, I belive, the only one in this solarsystem where the size ratio is so small.
All other planets have much smaller moons compared to their size. So our moon is really something special ...

Of these, the most important is its effect on the angle of tilt of Earth's spin axis relative to the plane of its orbit, which is called "obliquity..

7. Bill is just backpedaling.
He's just throwing out chaff. He's unwilling simply to admit, "Hey, I was wrong about the supposed ineffability of tides...I get it now; tides are well understood." He's moving the goalposts by tens of millions of miles, hoping we'll forget the earlier faceplants.

10. There's Charon
Charon is about half Pluto's diameter while Earth's Moon is only one-quarter of Earth's diameter. Like the Earth's Moon, Charon may be the result of a collision between Pluto and another large planetary body, as Pluto’s axis of rotation and Charon’s orbit are highly inclined which could result from such an impact.

11. Forgot that one, poor Pluto was downgraded from a planet not long ago

And our moon is bigger than Pluto

I can't wait to see how Pluto, Charon, Nix and Hydra look like (still 4 years of waiting)

12. That's just taxonomy
Apparently, solar systems stubbornly refuse to neatly organize themselves into easily identifiable components, any more than nature organizes living things into Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species. Those classifications are just human inventions. It's not like evolution is following some OSI 7 layer model. :) But it gives specialists something to argue about, like Pluto. Regardless of whether Pluto is or is not considered a planet by Earther standards, it's still a world and will continue doing its thing long after we are gone.

8. Wow, a brand-new argument for the existence of God...
the argument from personal ignorance

Apparently it works like this... every thing Bill doesn't understand is just one more piece of evidence for God's existence.

9. Rule #1 for Conservative Argumentation:
"Never admit you were wrong! Just restate your original argument - in more detail!"

I don't know how many creationists I, or my friends, have tried to argue with who just restated their argument - right after it was just refuted.
