The IceCube is an underground (or rather under-ice) telescope, that looks towards to core of planet earth to filter out any other cosmic radiation than neutrinos. They are the only particles small enough to pass through earth without hitting it.

The goal of the experiment is to measure energy statistics. From these you can derive the parameters of the neutrino mixing matrix and from these the mass-eigenstates of the neutrinos.
