Floating debris from Japan will wash up on U.S. coast
A massive island of debris is working its way across the Pacific Ocean, the remains of a tsunami that devastated the Japanese coast last month.

The debris, which comprises trees, houses, cars and human remains, is slowly floating eastward. And scientists say it’s likely to reach the western coast of the continental United States in two years.

It will likely reach Hawaii much sooner.

University of Hawaii’s International Pacific Research Center is tracking the debris swarm, and an animated projection is available online.

1. Woohoo!
Time to take a trip to the coast and pick up a gently-used car when it washes ashore!

2. You'll be able to see it at night.
That is, if your eyes still work.

3. I hadn't thought about it before...
...that'll be pretty weird. If I had thought about it before I wouldn't have
guessed it would take two years to get here.

4. I wouldn't want to be the person to find dead bodies from Japan washed up on shore.
:(

6. They will be long gone by then
eaten, decomposed. Along with anything else edible. They will see lots of plastic and some wood.

7. I would be hoping more for
a keg of Sake, or some hello Kitty things.
