I really wish some of you would support me in GDP
Since when has being against sexism made one the enemy on here?

Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 04:27 PM by Book Lover
but I was called a freeper in the lounge because I wasn't all that impressed with a man crowing about his cooking skills.

I'll dive into GD P and see how I can help

on edit: holy handbasket, what a thread!

3. DU's dirty secret is that sexism is alive and well among 'progressives'. nt

4. I'm not sure it's that much of a secret
About 10 minutes in GD or the Lounge makes it obvious.

13. It's not a secret.
Cannonfire has documented it extensively. This vile sexism has fueled a lot of the PUMA movement.

14. Except that the PUMA movement is essentially bullshit.
Privileged white women, Democrat or Republican, who had little to nothing to lose personally if John McCain got elected. I really think that if you, or your child, were going to be sacrificed to McCain's "Hundred Years in Iraq", you'd be singing a different tune.

Why you haven't been banned from this board yet is beyond me. And I say this as a lifelong, strident, committed feminist.

6. Since the fricking beginning of DU
A lot of liberal 'doodz' don't want to give up their male privilege.

11. Exactly.
They didn't get what their dads got (surrogate mommies in the forms of wives, protection from being upstaged by women, stable jobs and undisputed status) and boy are they PISSED.

I forget about what, absentmindedness is good for that, and I'm not even 100% I'm right on that, but if there's something sexist in GDP and you want to message me a link, most evenings I'd be able to go in and have your back on it.

Welcome to Mad Men America. We've all just learned that sexism pays. Don't look for it to abate any time soon.

I've seen enough posts like those in this thread to ask this question:

Have any of the DU feminists (I know that not all of the DU women are feminist) tried something like a "United Front", if you will?

..As for coming to your aid, I certainly will -- just pm me.

17. I puzzled over this

Myself, I haven't paid much attention to GD for a couple of years, since this place went to the dogs. Used to be you could learn something from somebody else, and somebody else would appreciate the opportunity to learn something from you. These days I'm pretty sure nobody ever reads anything past the OP in a thread before spewing a great big glorious opinion into it.

Anyhow. I think this says much of what I'd say:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=341&topic_id=10407&mesg_id=10443

I have no hesitation in supporting someone whose statements I agree with, regardless of who s/he is and what else s/he might say about other things. Some evidence:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x778538

But really, I do find the opening post here a bit rich.
